Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi

So, Type 2 diabetes now added to my list of stress factors.
Since my husband died suddenly last January without any warning (heart attack), my list started and just keeps getting longer. I had nothing to worry about before and no health issues! Just to give you a flavour of the biggest things ---
1. daughter living in Thailand
2. had to completely change lifestyle cos we lived on a narrowboat
3. had to sell the boat
4. had to buy a house
5. my brother died suddenly in May without any warning - heart attack
5. hypertensive (still being sorted out with ever changing meds)
6. had a skin cancer cut out of my face
7. on meds for high cholesterol
8. and now diabetic

However, I am determined not to let this latest set back totally unbalance me, so am reading everything I can about diabetes and joined this site for insider info! I certainly don't want sympathy - maybe just a kick up the old proverbial. I am sure there is life after diabetes (and everything else) - just struggling to find it at the moment. Hey ho - tomorrow's another day.

I look forward to educating myself, talking to you and coming out the other side!
Thanks for listening (isn't it odd that you can talk about these things in an anonymous forum - thank goodness cos I can't any more with family and friends, don't want to keep upsetting them).

Hi jampotb, welcome to the forum 🙂 Goodness, what a year you have had! The good news is that diabetes is a condition that can be managed well with the right knowledge and application, and many people find that the adjustments they make result in them feeling much happier and healthier. Your positive approach will no doubt stand you in good stead 🙂

I would recommend having a look at our 'Useful Links' thread - in particular, have a read of Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter, and get yourself a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker, all excellent sources of information to help you understand what it all entails.

Please ask any questions you may have and we will be happy to help whenever we can 🙂 Are you on any medication for your diabetes, and have you been given a meter and some test strips so you can review your progress at home?

Hi and welcome jampotb, you're in a great place for help and support!

Sorry to hear about your list of woes but do keep your chin up, you might find that being diagnosed with D is the start of a new and healthier phase of your life - it certainly was for me.

Hi jampot and welcome to the forum 🙂

What an awful time you've had over the last couple of years, I think you're amazing to have such a positive attitude after everything you've had to cope with. Being diagnosed with diabetes isn't great, but at least there's something you can do about it in terms of adjusting your diet and lifestyle. Do please ask any questions that you may have, and we will all try to help 🙂

Thanks for the welcome.
I am on Metformin 500 with breakfast then up to 500 breakfast and evening meal after 2 weeks. No mention made of meters so after reading for the past 36 hours or so, have ordered one.

Welcome to the forum jampotb 🙂
