Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi, Im new the board and just wanted to do a quick introduction!

Have had diabetes type 1 since 2005. Have my good days and bad days, my best HbA1c was 6.6 but recently it is 7.3 (Has got worse since coming off birth control pills). Trying my best to lower as trying for a baby but I find that I can either do it very well, or its crap. I think i become insulin resistant after I ovulate and thats the reason why. If anyone else has this problem I would be interested!

I also have polycystic ovaries (which i think have improved though a little weight loss).

My BMI is 27. Really struggle with weight. I find I can lose it but my control worsens, I tend to get fat when my blood sugar is good.

Really wanting to knuckly down and get a really good HbA1c so when I get pregnant (starting fertility treatment soon - been trying 22 months!) I have a healthy pregnancy.

Oh, and on metformin too!

😛

Well hello, and welcome..........

Its good to have you here..........

What insulin regime are you on, and is there anything you would like to discuss........?:D

Hi P&P, welcome to the forum 🙂 You do seem to have a fw things you want to tackle, so hopefully we will be able to help out by sharing our own experiences with you. There's a wealth of knowledge here and people are very friendly, so don't be afraid to ask anything - nothing is considered 'silly'! 🙂

We've got quite a few members going through what you are - either trying to get levels down so they can try for a baby, those who have conceived, and those who have babies - including a couple just recently! Check out the pregnancy section to see previous discussions on the subject, or start your own if you wish.

It would be helpful if we know what insulin regime you are on, so we can understand any problems you may be having - it could be that others have been through the same thing, on the saame regime, and found a solution!

Hi petsnponies, welcome to the forums!

We have been through that stressful and usually expensive experience that is fertility treatment. I hope that goes well for you. My wife isn't diabetic so we can't share any experiences on that front.

Hi petsnponies and a warm welcome to the forum

...I think i become insulin resistant after I ovulate and thats the reason why. If anyone else has this problem I would be interested!...

Hi and welcome 🙂

I am definitely more resistant after I ovulate. I came off the birth control pill 18 months ago (not to conceive, just because it wasn't agreeing with me), and had problems with BG for months afterward. I couldn't figure out why. Over the last few months I've started charting my BBT (basal body temp) to identify ovulation - and right enough, ovulation is a turning point in the month for me. Before ovulation I'm constantly battling hypos and after I can barely get into single figures!

If you know you have this problem it's the first step to helping to improve things. All I can suggest is keep an eye on it and adjust your insulin dose accordingly.

Anyway - feel free to rant away and ask any questions!

Hi Petsnponies and welcome to the forum. We have a wonderful diversity of people with a vast amount of experience here as you've already seen. Ask all the questions you want and you will get the support and help you need. Let's hope you soon change your name to Petsnponiesnbabies. XXXXX

Welcome to the forums. I'm relatively new here too, so hope to see you around the forums as well!

Welcome to the forum - I hope that you find it useful.

Look forward to reading more of your posts.

Just two questions for now - have you attended a preconception clinic at the diabetes clinic and are you on the extra high strength folic acid tablets. The ones you buy over the counter are way below what is recommended for diabetics.

Hi,

I'm new to the forum too and this is my first welcome to a fellow newbie!!
Hope everything goes well with the fertility treatment and baby hopes for the future!

Joann
