Hi and welcome.

Would you like to tell us a bit about how you manage your diabetes? Things like which insulin(s) you use, pump or injections, which sensor you use.
Is there anything particular which brings you to the forum or just wanting to compare notes with others who face the same challenges? If you have any questions, ask away..... the forum is goldmine of knowledge and practical experience, so dig in!

Hi there. I’m just 9 months in and aged 57 so all change here too. Feel free to ask any questions and lots of people will be able to provide their own experiences.

Welcome to the forum @stephens49

We have quite a few members who developed diabetes *ahem* somewhat after childhood… so you are among good company here.

How have things been going with T1 so far? Are there any things that you are finding particularly confusing or tricky at the moment? Or are you just looking to compare notes and exchange experiences with others (which can be a hugely valuable source of support!)

I manage my diabetes by using Humlin M3 quick pens,my sensor is a pure one(can't remember which one)and I take Adcal D3 Caplets twice a day.

Hi again @stephens49

Are you in the UK. It is quite unusual for a fairly newly diagnosed Type 1 to be on mixed insulin which is what Humulin M3 is, which is why I ask about your geographical location. Also, I have never heard of a "pure one" sensor? Could that be an auto correct and it is Dexcom One? Or is it just some sort of blood glucose meter which you have to prick your finger to get blood to test?

The Adcal D3 is vitamin D supplement.

Anyway, apart from the technicalities of insulin and blood glucose monitors..... how are you managing? We all know it can be pretty overwhelming at first.

Would you like to tell us a bit about how you came to be diagnosed? Were you really ill and admitted to hospital or was it just picked up via a routine blood test?
Who supports you with your diabetes management. Is it a GP or a nurse at the GP surgery or are you under a consultant at the specialist diabetes clinic? Hopefully the latter, but your mixed insulin makes me wonder as few clinics would start a Type 1 diabetic off with mixed insulin as it is a bit old fashioned and restrictive. Do you manage OK with it?

The insulin pens are actually M3 Kwik Pens and I'm managing very well.At the start I wondered if I would do so but I soon got used to it and now it comes naturally to me.
