hiya,

i was diagnosed with diabetes about a year and a half ago - to be honest i didnt want to test my own blood and thought it was a waste of time. but recently after feeling ill i started to test. Now my monitor was unused for a long time and the batteries went weird - saying they were dead / kept cutting out. then one day out of the blue they started to work again fine. But since then i've been getting very high blood sugar results - 18 the highest - the lowest around the 12 mark. I'm wondering if the monitor is faulty - are false high readings common??
i have a Accu-check Nano.

Hey Simon,

my advice would to be to get a new, more up to date meter from your doctor or clinic, especially if its not been used for a while........

Just means that you can be sure if what yout glucose levels are at......its important............

You can also buy them as well.............

Search through the forums, think there might be good links kicking around to some meters.............

Hi Simon, welcome to the forum 🙂 Your meter is your friend! Call Roche on their helpline or go to their website:

http://www.accu-chek.co.uk/gb/myaccuchek/orderaccessories.html?nav=customerservice

and they will send you some free batteries for your nano. You should also check whether your test strips are still within date as this will affect your readings. Well done on getting back on track with your diabetes - treat it with respect, it's the only way to deal with it and manage it 🙂

Please ask anything you are unsure of, we welcome your questions 🙂

Ask for some test solution so you can check the meter and the strips - it's the only way to know.

Apologies for hijacking the thread.

Hi Simon

Welcome to the forum 🙂

Hi all - thanks for the replies :D what does the test solution do?? is there anyway of resetting them?? i've registered with them now and ordered some new batteries and solution so hopefully it will help 🙂

The test sticks are in date 🙂

Test solution is a known value of blood glucose, so your meter should give a value within the range stated on the bottle. "Test strips" (usually rigid plastic electrodes) are actually for calibrating, to make sure test strips (usually more flexible strips for taking up blood or test solution) that follow are reading the right units and right chemical, in case of Optium Exceed meter, which can read both blood glucose and blood ketones, using different test strips.

Welcome to the forum Simon,

I hope that you get your meter running smoothly soon.

Andy 🙂
