not been on here for many moons know some who are still on here.

Quick update - partner passed on 3 years ago now - did suffer a small heart attack MRI shows ischemic heart disease along with 2 head retention cysts.

Now gone on to develop Dysplacia of the tongue had a few ops done and still battling and new cystoscopy last Thursday is showing a white patch in bladder so going to be attending another hospital where they do urology cancer stuff.

Diabetes has all ways been a struggle and in due course starting Lantus once a day totally new to me. would be grateful for any input about the injection.

Well that is about it for now take care all.

Mike - hugs to all.

Hi Mike and welcome back.

Sorry to hear you now need insulin. Do I understand correctly that you haven't started it yet? Is there anything particular you are concerned about? The needles are absolutely tiny if that is any help. Mostly you barely feel them at all, but sometimes you hit a sensitive spot and sometimes the insulin stings a bit, but certainly bearable and only for a few seconds.
Generally they start you off on a much lower dose than they think you will need and gradually increase it over days and weeks until they find the balance point, so that it doesn't drop your levels dramatically and cause a hypo, but always important on insulin to carry hypo treatments with you ate all times. I use jelly babies but you can get dextrose tablets or small cartons of fruit juice or small cans of coke, or Haribo sweets.

Not sure what else you need to know.... if you drive you need to inform DVLA and they will put you onto a 3 year medical licence.

If there is anything particular you are worried about with insulin that I haven't covered just ask.

Hope all goes well with your Urology appointment and it is a false alarm.

Welcome back, crickey you have had a battle.

I was on lantus for a while it was better than the other one I was on before that, and I didn’t and go to another which made me very nauseous. So Lantus was the best background for me.

What have they advised you on amounts? As it varies by person.

Take care

Sorry about loss of your partner.

Was on lantus before switching to pump, found it to be best background insulin I'd used & didn't really have any issues with it, lantus can sting a little so make sure it's not cold straight from fridge & make sure to inject it slowly.

Depending on dose it might be better to split the dose into 2 different sites, but as ever seek advise from your diabetes team on starting dose & adjustments. Good luck.

Welcome back,

You have been through a lot, can’t help with your query as I am only on oral medication. But wanted to send you a virtual hug.

Sorry for the delays getting back - GrannyLorrain many thanks sending virtual hugs back. very good advice esp the one when taking it out of fridge so not to sting as much. take care all and thanks for all the advice.
