Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello there, I was diagnosed with type 1 in August 2011. Found this forum a few months ago and have been reading the posts, it's been really informative. Thought I should join the club! I am on MDI of Apidra and Lantus at night. Think I am still in honeymoon period don't know how long that is going to last but trying my hardest to keep on top of it!

Hi Den, welcome to the forum, glad you decided to 'delurk' 🙂 How did you come to be diagnosed?

As you've been following things, you'll know that you can ask anything that might be bothering or confusing you, report your successes, or just let off steam if The Diabetes Fairy is misbehaving! 🙂

I look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome Den 🙂

If you've been reading the forum for a while you'll know just how great it is.

Ask a questions, you'll get an answer from someone!

And still Northerner beat me :D

Hi Den,
welcome to the forum 🙂

Welcome to the forum Den 🙂

Hi and a warm welcome to the forum

welcome to the forum Den 🙂

Thank you for the warm welcome. I was diagnosed last summer after losing a stone of weight, really thirsty, sore limbs and very dizzy. Didn't really know what the matter was. Had an appointment with the practice nurse and she thought it was diabetes. So was put up to the hospital and it was confirmed.

I try and count carbs and did have a date for the DAFNE course but when they looked at the amount of insulin I take they felt they coulf not adjust my dosages. I don't take any insulin in the morning but need for lunch and dinner. I work out the carbs by 10g carb to 1 unit insulin and then take of 2 units and that seems to work for me (say my tea us 50g carbs I'll need 3 units to cover it).

I take 6 units of Lantus for overnight and that has not changed for a while now. So I guess I am still I'm the honeymoon period.

Take every day as it comes! 🙂

Denise

Hi Denise, it does sound like the honeymoon so it's a case of seeing what you need for familiar meals and learning from experience - your method sounds as if it is working well for you. Have you got a half-unit pen for the Apidra? I'm not sure if they make them, but if they do then it might be worth asking your nurse for one. Alternatively, you could change to novorapid and use a novopen echo which does half units.

Hi Northerner, I did not realise you get half-unit pens, I will definitely speak to my DSN. Thank you.
