Welcome aboard the Diabetic train................

Diabetes care has come along way over a short time, so hopefully you will get a good team that will get you educated on counting carbs and adjusting your insulin accordingly............

This forum is a great source of support/knowledge/experience.........

Ask any questions you have, you will receive many answers.......😉

Hi Gem, welcome to the forum 🙂 Are you on fixed doses of your insulin? If so, you should ask at your clinic about 'carb counting' courses - this will teach you how to adjust your doses according to what you are eating and give you the most flexibility with your diet and lifestyle. I would highly recommend getting Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults by Ragnar Hanas - it's very good for both reference and also fr finding out about all the different aspects of managing Type 1 diabetes 🙂

Let us know if you have any questions and we will be happy to help out! 🙂

Welcome to the forums Gem 🙂

Welcome Gem.

In the longer term, a carb counting course would be helpful, but in the first year or so as an adult with diabetes, your pancreas will probably continue to produce irregular amounts of insulin, which makes life, well, interesting... As you've only been taking insulin for 2 weeks, your team is probably increasing your doses gradually, which is better than suddenly, as it helps your body get used to nearer normal blood glucose levels, without lots of false feelings of hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar). Take it steady 🙂

If you have a car or motorbike driving licence, you need to inform DVLA, who will probably issue you with a 3 year licence, that can be renewed. Unfortunately, they will remove any entitlement to driving larger vehicles.

Hi

My daughter was diagnosed 6 weeks ago only 3 1/2 hrs old. She started on 2 injections and now on 4 massive learning curve still. Huge life change trying to get our head around carb counting too. Good luck xx

Hi Gem and welcome to the forums 🙂

Hello, nice to have you here. 🙂

Hi Gem, and welcome to being here if sadly unfortunate. But no need to get down and see it as anything other and a slight inconvenience. We can still do anything and everything if maybe with a little extra thought at times. A few adaptation's to life but nothing else really. Just keep on smile, injecting and carry on going 🙂
