Hello, I'm just introducing myself as suggested. I've had type 1 for 46 years (47 in November) and have seen diabetes treatment change immensely over this period. I started with stainless steel needles, and glass syringes, and having to sterilise them every morning with hot water, and now, have been moved to CGM with a 780 Medtronic pump, Guardian 4 sensor and Smartguard system. Received these on 22nd August, so it's all new. I have questions about these but use the relevant part of the forums for these.

Hi and welcome.

Wow, yes things have certainly come a long way in that time and great that you are embracing the new technology.... and have found your way to the forum here for support. @SB2015 has the Medtronic 780 with Guardian sensors so I am sure she will be able to give you the benefit of her experience with the system.
Good luck with it. I am sure you will find it beneficial.

Hi Barbara

Thank you, I really appreciate your warm welcome. . I have to say the CGM is amazing so far. I posted my questions in the technology forum, main concern being how to keep it on 🙂
Best wishes.

Yes, I saw your other post in the Technology thread and hopefully Sue who I tagged above, will find it and be able to offer advice as well as come here and welcome you.
I use an elastic arm band for my Libre but I am not sure if anything similar is available or indeed recommended or discouraged for the Guardian sensors as it is more of a niche market.

Just replied to that bit regarding taping it and removing adhesive.
like you I have found the Smartguard system brilliant. It saves me a lot of thinking about my diabetes and deals with the day to day. If you have any other questions do ask.

Welcome to the forum @Type 1 Teddy

Glad to have your wisdom and experience here. We have quite a few long-term T1 members here, so you’ll be in good company reminiscing about urine, test tubes, ‘BM sticks’ and the arrival of newfangled modern gadgets like disposable syringes and even ‘insulin pens’ 😱

Thank you for your warm welcome. I'd completely forgotten about the urine test tubes, and the never ending wait for colours to change on BM sticks. Those disposable syringes were a relief after the glass ones:rofl::rofl:

Thankyou for the reply, that was very useful, I think I just need to get used to the process of changing it, it seems lengthy, though being confident about cleaning and getting it attached will help. Luckily I work at home, but on the days I'm out or travelling on holiday I need to work a system or simply revert to manual use I guess, though of course those are some of the best times to be using it.

I try to do my change over on the same day each week, and if I have a sensor that fails I always get a replacement. I insert one from my stock and then still do the change on my usual day. It is a day when I can more easily manage the 2 hour warm up period. As soon as I get up I take out the sensor, clean the transmitter and out it on charge. By the end of breakfast it is ready. The insertion and attaching the transmitter gets easier (for my OH who does it for me in the rear of my upper arm.)
You will find a system that works for you.
