Hi folks. I've just decided to join as I welcome help and support after being diagnosed with diabetes type 2 on September 30, 2010.

I look forward to reading as many posts as possible.

If you're wondering about the username - "Zuckerkranke". It's German for diabetes and literally translates as "sugar sick."

Hi there Colin and a warm welcome to the forum, well you already answered the first Q i was going to ask lol, ty for the enlightenment on your username...
Are you on any medication or just diet and exercise ?
 
Hi Steffie. My diabetes is controlled by gliclazide and metformin tablets and also diet.
 
I have a good care team and I see them once every eight weeks or so. I had a bit of an additional problem with a foot ulcer a couple of months ago. That meant a course of antibiotics and dressings twice a week for almost six weeks. In addition, I was told to rest as much as I could. That led to a bout of depression, but the care team - especially my podiatrist helped encourage me. So, I'm over that now.

I like to think my blood sugars are well-controlled. I don't believe in over-stepping boundaries. I normally test my blood sugar immediately after I get up in the morning. If I hit the required level of between 4 and 7, that puts me in a great mood for the rest of the day.

I suffered hypo symptoms the day before I was diagnosed but none since but I'm always wary of them.

Like the username - already knew what it meant, so I will adopt a moment of superiority over those that didn't. You gotta grab these chances when they present themselves! :D
Plenty of info on this site and experiences from those in a similar position to you.
