I have been taken off Trulicity being told that I do not qualify... I do not meet the 'criteria' although Ive been taking it for over 4 years, with no side effects at all! Unfortunately I am unable to take Metformin anymore due to stomach problems and was therefore informed that Insulin was the only other option :-( a route I did not want to take I hasten to add. They have now introduced 2 Rapid Insulin injections so that's now 3 shots a day, whereas Trulicity was once a week!! I am now having to check my BG significantly, checking for Hypos but finding readings eractic :-(
Has anybody else been down this route? I understand that due to the current day demand to use Diabetic injection medication to lose weight, sourcing Trulicity became a problem, it was only then I was told I shouldn't be on it! Just to also add that I never lost weight with Trulicity and my diabetes is genetic.

Welcome to the forum @Jenx2

Sorry to hear that the change of meds has been forced on you without much consultation/discussion :(

I’m not aware of the national guidance around Trulicity (Dulaglutide) having changed recently, so it does sound odd that you have been offered it for 4 years, but now are having to move to something else. Trulicity has been rather affected by the shortage in Ozempic (another GLP-1 medication) recently, so perhaps your local health authority have changed their rules?

Have you tried other oral meds in the past? Like Gliclazide, or an SGLT-2?

The NICE guidance for T2 seems to suggest that GLP-1s should be added as a third-line therapy if other options have already been tried.

There’s also this NHS/NICE ‘flow chart’ for GPs, which outlines the evidences-based options for combinations of meds before insulin is initiated.

You can only stay on the GLP if you lose weight though, which @Jenx2 hasnt done?

“Only continue GLP‑1 mimetic therapy if the adult with type 2 diabetes has had a beneficial metabolic response (a reduction of at least 11 mmol/mol [1.0%] in HbA1c and weight loss of at least 3% of initial body weight in 6 months).”

Ah that’s a helpful spot @Lucyr - maybe that’s why they said the criteria weren’t met?

Have you tried other oral meds other than Metformin and Trulicity @Jenx2
