Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello! I am Liz, I've been type 1 for 40 years, had it since I was 12, and have no complications despite having brittle diabetes. Must have good genes.

I have a pump now, have been pumping for 11 years, and as I am sensitive to allergic to 'human' and analogue insulins, i use animal insulin in it. It works fine for me.

Pleased to meet you all!

Hi Liz and a warm welcome to the forum

Hi Liz. Welcome 🙂

Just been having a quick nose at your website. 🙂

Hi Liz!, welcome to the forum 🙂 Goodness, 40 years! We have quite a few people with decades of experience, and it is always good to hear of more experiences, so I look forward to hearing more from you. It's always comforting for someone like me, diagnosed just a couple of years, to know that it is possible to remain complication-free after many decades - good to hear that you are coping well.

I notice that you are a poet! We have some poets here, myself included - click on the link in my signature to have a look at a few of them.:D

Hello all!

Enjoyed your diabetes poems Northerner! I've noticed that in our waiting room too. i think they should provide massage instead, or a radio perhaps... no massage. Much more helpful. And a scene. By 'scene' I mean another patient getting angry at how long they've been kept waiting. I find that has several helpful aspects - you feel smug for being a good, patient, patient, it's fun to watch Drs and nurses placating as they do it SO well, you don't need your eyes, and you can dream about throwing yourself in between the pretty nurse (or in my case, handsome nurse) and saving them from physical harm and becoming a hero. It helps time pass way more quickly than anything else,

I write mainly for children. I do have an adult book (hopefully) coming out this year. but I don't ever write about anything personal, as i just don't seem to be able to do it!

Hello Liz,
I have just joined too. Like you I am a pumper and use animal insulin in my pump 🙂

Hi Sue. Welcome to you also 🙂

Hi Sue a warm welcome to the forum from me.

Ooh, hello Sue! Why did you decide to use it? If it's ok to ask...

I point blank refused to use the human or analogues right from the word go :D
I've had type 1 diabetes for 46 years.

Hello ladies!

Welcome to the mad house! We don't bite... Really. I've been type one for fourteen years and have only used analogues or human stuff. Stange really. I'd be deeply interested to read about your experiences of pumping animal insulin. It's challenging enough for me to pump Novorapid!

Well... I've just posted what could be viewed as contentious views re analogs etc on another thread... have no idea which one though.. one you posted on too Sue!

I've been injecting for 40 years.
