Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi,

I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes 4 weeks ago. It's not been easy and I guess I have a long haul ahead before I can get to grips and fully understand how to control my blood levels. Anyway I am sure I can get some real help on these forums.

Welcome to the forum!

I'm sure that you'll get lots of good advice here as well as a bit of chat if you want it.

Andy 🙂

Hello, welcome to the forum. Feel free to ask any questions you have or just have a whinge when you need to.

Hello and welcome to the forum.🙂

What insulin and regime are you on.🙂Bev

Hi Richard, welcome to the forum 🙂 You will learn in time how best to manage the diabetes, so try not to feel overwhelmed at the moment. What sort of regime are you on? Have you been given a place on a diabetes education course yet, like DAFNE, to learn carb counting? All PCTs are obliged to provide something and it's well worth attending.

I'd thoroughly recommend Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults by Ragnar Hanas as a brilliant reference for Type1 (no matter what your age - I was diagnosed aged 49!)

Please ask anyquestions you may have - nothing is considered 'silly'!

Hi and a warm welcome to the forum Richard

Hi Richard 🙂

Welcome to the forum. Good to see more people from Bournemouth on here :D
I'm assuming you go to Royal Bournemouth Hospital for your treatment? Have they spoken to you about a carb counting course?

I'm sure it must all seem a bit daunting a first, but it gets a lot easier.

Katie

Hello and welcome from me too.

Completely agree about the suggestion of a carb counting course. Might seem a bit of an information overload/complete hassle to start with, but learning to match the carbohydrate you eat with the insulin you inject is the best way to improve BG (blood glucose) control.

Thanks to everyone for a warm welcome

Hi all,

Thanks for your kind responses
Yes I am at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and no I haven't yet got a carb counting workshop set up but the nurse has spoken about it and I believe the first one is January which I will attend.
I am on Apidra and Lantus and on average my bgls are from 6 -9.

average blgs between 6-9 sounds pretty good to me. I was dx in April, and have found the forum to be a great help...

Mrs Q is a cherries fan too, but now exiled in Huddersfield, where she has to indulge my support of the mighty Terriers!

Welcome to the forum...
