Hi my name is Kim and I've just joined this group. I have had diabetes for over 2 years and have found it very difficult to find food that I like. I recently tried Metformin which made me I'll so am now on a new slow release tablet which is still making me feel nauseous. How do others cope with this?

Welcome to the forum. Metformin is renowned for causing stomach issues but slow release are tolerated better, taking them mid meal often helps but if it still causes problems then there are alternatives that may suit you better.
However dietary changes can be equally if not more important as metformin only helps by enabling to body to use the insulin it produces more effectively and reducing the amount of glucose released by the liver.
You say you find it difficult to find foods you like, does that mean you don't like meat, fish, eggs, cheese, dairy products, vegetables, salads, and fruit like berries as these are all foods that should be forming the basis of your meals with only small portions of carbohydrates.
That is the big change to diet that people need to get to grips with as all carbs convert to glucose not just sugar. However low carb dietary regime does not mean NO carbs and it is suggested that carbs should be limited to no more than 130g per day.
Have a look at this link for a low carb approach which may give you some ideas for modifying your diet, there are menu plans for different tastes and budgets. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
Do you know what your latest HbA1C is as that will indicate how much work you need to do.
If you would like to share some examples of the meals you have people may spot some problem foods and suggest alternatives.

Welcome @Juliana 🙂 Do you know what your most recent HbA1C result was? I ask because if it wasn’t too high you might have a chance of stopping the Metformin and trying to treat your Type 2 with diet only.

Welcome to the forum @Juliana

Sorry to hear the metformin made you feel a bit poorly. Hopefully the slow release version will suit you much better. Lots of people on the forum have found that it takes a little while for their bodies to get used to Metformin, and that any stomach upset or nausea they experience disappears over a short period of time.

Hope that’s the case for you too.

As others have said, do look into the various different options for eating in a more diabetes-friendly way too. This can really help with weight and glucose management 🙂
