I first registered with DUK in 2017 when I came out of hospital having been newly diagnosed as a diabetic due to my emergency surgery. For the first time ever, yesterday lunchtime I accidentally (don't ask!) took another dose of my daily morning, 'background' Tresiba!! I panicked & didn't know what to do. Therefore I tested my blood sugar every hour till bed (having normal meals & having 'correction doses' if necessary) including testing twice in the night. On waking my BS was (my normal range) 5.1mmol/L. I thought I shouldn't take my Tresiba this morning due to the 'overdose' yesterdsy & continue through the day monitoring more often. However, foolishly I didn't take my usual dose of Novo Rapid so my monitor recorded 2 hrs later a reading of 'HI'! Never seen before does this mean my extra dose of Tresiba yesterday hasn't make a big difference and I could have taken just my NR? I did take quite the usual dose when I recorded the 'HI' - please help! Thank you. Elaine D

Welcome back @Elaine D

All too easily done isn’t it!

Tresiba is supposed to have a duration of action of approx 42 hours, but I have never used it, so I don’t know what the length of onset vs full action vs gradually fading away is.

I think you are supposed to take it every day, rather than every 2 days, so it seems like the second day’s dose may not be full strength and that (perhaps) each dose sort of blends into the other.

Well done on the extra testing - a very wise strategy. Slightly surprised you needed correction doses if you were on double your basal (unless you meant extra carbs?).

Hope things settle down for you now.

Welcome back @Elaine D

You are definitely not the only one who has done this. Well done on following the sensible tactics of regular checking including through the night. I have not used Tresiba so not sure how the basal doses overlap in practice.

I hope that things have settled down now for you.
