Don't feel my falling asleep I just pass out. Just wondered if anyone else experiencing this. And how I can move forward

Welcome to the forum
You have obviously been struggling with managing your condition so I hope you will find some useful suggestions here.
If you are happy to share a bit more information people will get a better picture of your situation.
What is your HbA1C now, I assume you are having regular checks
What medications are you currently taking
What dietary measures have you been taking to reduce blood glucose levels.

Certainly the symptoms you describe are consistent with high blood glucose but I think you should also be contacting your GP or diabetic nurse as there may be alternative medication which would suit you better and you should probably have some blood tests to rule out other factors, kidney function for example if you are getting swollen ankles though some blood pressure meds can cause that.

Hi Stuart

Wecome from me too. I've only been on the forum a couple of weeks, but I think you'll find all the people here friendly and supportive. You can share as much as you like and don't get judged
I'm glad I joined!

Cheers

Steve

Welcome @Padbu76 You’ll find lots of friendly people here who know how hard diabetes can be. Do you test your own blood sugar?

Hi @Padbu76 welcome.
And you’re starting to move this forward by joining the forum. That shows you want to learn more about your diabetes and that’s a good thing.

Admittedly on not good with diet. In a 45 year old carpenter so don't really have a regular set meal time. I'm on at present sukkarto slow relise metformin and Jardine I don't and have never felt they do any good. I'm 16st down from sometimes over 18st. (5ft6) my hb1c has always been around 70s which I know is really bad.

I'd also like to add after reading other posts I'm always tired and get depressed (I sometimes manage to talk myself out of going to work. I love both my parents died of cancer dad 2007 (asbestos) mum 2019 I put me being depressed down to that. Something I'll never get over

It's not easy managing your diabetes with mental health concerns but it is possible. I try and compartmentalise my diabetes and my mental health conditions so that I can aim to make better decisions on them without one really being led by the other.
I'm not sure if I'm explaining this adequately so if not then ask 🙂

You mention that you're "not good with diet" so may I ask what kind of things you are eating on an average day?

I do eat proper meals in the evening (cooked by the missus) although big plates I spose. But I'm a big snacker chocklet an crisps an so on. Toast an jam for breakfast. Missus dose my pack up generally carrots, ham ,baby Tom's cucumber that kind of thing

What's a "proper" meal?
Can you give examples of perhaps what you would usually have for breakfast perhaps?

It may be that there are some really simple switches we can suggest which could help your BG levels?
Also may I ask whether you test your BG yourself or do you only have the HbA1c from tests at the GP?

Sometimes what I type may come over as a but abrupt and I apologise for that however I'm typing these replies in very quick free time at work!

Ah - I was just going to mention that when first diagnosed I was put on Metformin and Atorvastatin, and in a few weeks I was suicidal - on three occasions just before Christmas I was definitely considering methods. I threw out the tablets when I realised how they were affecting my memory - but had no more dark thoughts after that.

Do you need to eat high carb foods at meals and to snack through the day to counteract the medication?
I eat twice a day, always low carb foods, and have normal numbers - and little trouble in going to work even though I am over 70 now.
I am not on any medication other than the Thyroxine for my failed thyroid, but even that has been reduced now that I am consistently in normal numbers.
I did have a lot of worry after having my first AZ jab, but I managed to keep my toes and seem to have got a way with it.

It sounds as if some dietary changes would help you and some portion control which is also important.
Have a look at this link as that might help with you and your 'chef' to make some changes. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/
By having enough protein and healthy fats you will be less likely to be hungry and be tempted by high carb snacks.
As high blood glucose affects all cells in the body including the brain that can easily be affecting your mental health.

Doc's do hbA1c yearly although slipped during covid

Toast an jam for breakfast

Sauages,chicken,scampi,spuds,gravey veg
Spagbol Shepherds pie that kind of thing
Toast and jam, not too good, bacon and egg, mushrooms, tomatoes, eggs in any form, Greek yoghurt with berries, low carb but more protein
High meat content sausages and all meat and fish are good choices but not to many spuds and plenty of other veg or salads.
Chilis, curries, stir fry are all good.

How about porridge for breakfast. I carnt see cooking bacon or sausage before I go to work

Some people can tolerate porridge well and others can't. Something like yoghurt with berries would take no prep and would be significantly lower carb than the toast and jam. Even switching the bread to low(er) carb bread and not using jam but maybe having it with an egg instead?

There are lots of suggestions of lower carb choices on line https://www.google.com/search?q=low...ACeACAAQCIAQCSAQCYAQDIAQjAAQE&sclient=gws-wiz

A lot of us on here do find that testing at home helps us better understand our diabetes and how we can tolerate various foods. So we can perhaps make better informed decisions than we otherwise would be able to do.

Someone likened it driving a car without a speedo and trying to keep at 40!
