Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello everyone I'm sam had type 1 diabetes fro 10 years and struggled with it only really recently excepted it

Welcome to the forum 🙂

Hi Sam and welcome

Pleased you have found the forum because it really helps to be able to share experiences and get tips and support from people who face similar challenges. Diabetes can be quite isolating, so hopefully we will be able to support and motivate you a bit.
Which insulin(s) do you use? injections or a pump?
Do you have Freestyle Libre sensors on prescription or other CGM?

Have you been offered an intensive education course like DAFNE or whatever your local equivalent is? I found DAFNE really good for improving my confidence in managing my diabetes and spending a week with 5 other Type 1s was a huge benefit in understanding how we are all so different, but the course teaches you to problem solve for each other so you learn how to manage lots of different real life situations.

Is there anything particular which you struggle with in managing your diabetes that we can perhaps help you with or have you just come for a bit of inspiration and moral support. Please feel free to ask any questions you have and we will do our best to give you suggestions for things you can try to resolve whatever problems you have. Because we are all different, there may not be just one right answer. I find diabetes is about experimenting on yourself to find what works for you as an individual, so sometimes you have to try a few different things before you find something that works for you.

Anyway, make yourself at home and I hope you find the forum as beneficial as I have over the past few years since diagnosis.

I am on the libre sensor I take novarapid and tresibre insulin injection

How do you find the Libre? Is it helping you?

Welcome to the forum @sam86.

You mentioned that you have have accepted your diabetes now.
What do you think has he,led you to do that.

There is a wealth of experience to tap into on here so fire away with any questions that arise.
nothing is considered silly on here, so just ask.

To be truthful I ended up in hospital in May this year becuse I just gave up on life didn't want to live anymore but that's when Jesus came to me and saved me he gave me a new life changed my mind set and my heart

Do you still finger prick when the Libre says low and you don’t feel low?

I am pleased that you have found a way of life that gives you the hope that you need.

Do come back with any questions around your diabetes.

I messed up my body becuse I didn't take condition seriously from my diagnosis hardly ever took my insulin for years and years so now I can get hypo systems and higher levels like 6/8 reading

I imagine there's a chance that'll resolve if you manage to keep better control for a while. (I'm speculating based on hypo unawareness, which can (at least some of the time) resolve after some time of not going hypo. It's possible that that speculation is incorrect but it feels plausible to me.)

Ok thanks good to know

I joined to just meet other people with the same condition becuse I have felt isolated for a long time with it my freinds and family try there best to support and understand but as I tell them unless you go though it yourself you can't really no what day to day life is dealing with it

Let's hope. (As I said I'm speculating. It can be true for loss of hypo awareness, but I'm not sure whether what you're experiencing is similar or not.) Come to think of it, maybe it's "false hypo" (or related) and that can also resolve itself over time in better control?

The forum is really beneficial for this, so it is really good that you have joined us.

Sorry to hear that you are suffering with other health issues...

As regards the diarrhoea, have you discussed this with your GP?
Are you taking any other medication for your diabetes or just insulin? Just wondering if you might have been started on Metformin and that could be the cause of your upset digestive system. It might also be wise to get your digestive enzymes checked via a stool sample (I believe it is called an elastase test) as it may be that you need a digestive supplement..... that would be particularly appropriate if you are underweight or losing weight ie not able to get the nutrients from your food.
The pain in your legs could possibly be neuropathy if you have neglected your diabetes for quite a while. It may be transient and wear off as your BG levels stabilize or it may be longer term damage in which case you should talk to your GP about pain management. The important thing will be to walk regularly if you are able to or any other steady exercise to stimulate the blood flow to your legs and feet combined with good diabetes management, the nerves may repair themselves. It would also be wise to ask your GP to check your vitamin B12 levels as a deficiency can lead to nerve damage and that would be a relatively easy test and easy fix.

Hopefully some of these health issues can be easily fixed.
