Hello,
my names Mary, i'm 18 from Bristol and have been a Type one Diabetic for almost 8 years i got diagnosed a week before my 10th Birthday!.

Joining this forum because at times i feel so alone.. and feel like nobody understands how i feel about having diabetes.

My diabetes is a constant struggle my blood sugars have never been stabilised.

Looking forward to learning more about the condition 🙂

Hi Mary, welcome to the forum 🙂 No need to feel alone any more! There are lots of lovely, friendly people here with all sorts of experience who will be happy to listen to you and hopefully help you get things under control 🙂

What insulin regime are you on? It must be very difficult growing up through your teenage years having to deal with something like diabetes - I didn't have to, but there are lots of people here who have, and hopefully they will be able to share their experiences and help you get to grips with things.

If you haven't seen it, I would highly recommend getting hold of a copy of Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young People by Ragnar Hanas. It's a really excellent book that covers all aspects of Type 1, very well-written, and may cover many things you are struggling with.

Please ask any questions you may have, I look forward to hearing more from you 🙂

Mary hi and a warm welcome to the forum

Welcome Maryamy.

Now that you're 18, you may be able to attend diabetes education courses to help you manage your condition. So, it's worth asking your diabetes team about DAFNE (Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating) or others that run in your area. If there are no spaces for a long while, then you can get started with an online course at http://www.bdec-e-learning.com/ (free to register and use)

My Diabetes is all over the place as i have another disability which effects my diabetes.

I was put on carbohydrate counting in the Summer, i take 4 injections a day.
I have a feeling my fast acting insulin isn't very effective as when i was on 3 injections a day they took me off my lunch time one and while i was on it i was hungry all the time and put weight on, when they took me off it i lost weight was slimmer and had better control. Then they put me back on it when i went on 4 injections a day. Has anyone else had this problem with NovoRapid?

What sort of numbers are you getting pre- and post-meals Mary, and how much insulin would you have on a normal day? If you're having to 'feed the insulin' because otherwise you'd drop low then this is an area that is worth looking at. With your disability, are you able to be very active? I find that when I am not being very active my insulin requirements increase a lot and I put weight on. What insulin were you on previously?

Welcome to the forum Mary 🙂
