Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi,my name is Yvonne.I am 55.I was diagnosed 2 months ago with type 2 diabetes.I go to see a health trainer she has been very good with advice about exercise and what to eat but i still feel confused.I would welcome any advice.Thank you.

Hi Yvonne, welcome to the forum 🙂 I moved your post to its own thread so it wouldn't get lost in the other one.

Are you on any medication for your diabetes? I would suggest reading Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter as a good introduction to how best to approach your diabetes management, and also get hold of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker, highly recommended by many of our Type 2 members. All these will hopefully help to sort out some of the confusion!

Have you been given a blood glucose meter and been prescribed some test strips? Most people find that using a meter is the quickest and best way (if not only way!) of finding out how different foods affect you. Diabetes is a very individual condition and your tolerance to, for example, granary bread or porridge (both supposed to be slow release and good for your levels) could be quite different to someone else's experience.

There are hundreds of friendly, experienced people here, so any question you may have - nothing is silly! - will be answered promptly 🙂 I look forward to hearing more from you.
