WELCOME @tassy 🙂 I’M WRITING IN CAPS FOR YOU BUT THERE MIGHT BE HELP YOU CAN GET WHEN USING THE FORUM TO ENABLE YOU SEE MORE EASILY.

I can also write in larger font like this. I’ll tag @everydayupsanddowns in case he knows how to make things easier for you.

Welcome to the forum from me as well. Would you like to say a bit about your diagnosis as 'At risk' as really it is a bit of a wake up call to just watch your diet so as not to edge up into the diabetic zone. There is some more recent guidelines that suggest the the diagnostic levels should be more lenient for more mature people if they are not in an at risk category because of other conditions or if they have no symptoms.
It likely that some modest changes such as keeping cakes and biscuits for treats and reducing your portions of some of the higher carb foods like potatoes, bread, rice, pasta and having more vegetables, salads and basing meals on meat, fish, eggs, cheese with smaller portions of those high carb foods.

Thank you. I have had a difficult few years, from bereavement, moving country and ill health. iI has all been very stressful and as a result I have been comfort eating. My results today were 153 [7]. and 14sts.3lbs. This has given me the push to join today. I have read and saved many of the articles. I intend to begin with fasting, to try to give me a kick start. I live on my own and it isn't easy, but I am determined to reduce my weight. I also need to look at some possible sustainable exercise, because I am very housebound and use a mobility scooter.I am Type 2 Diabetic

You might want to change your signature as it says 'at risk of diabetes'
The number you quote of 153, is that the result of your HbA1C test as if so that is very high. Have you been prescribed any medication or given any dietary advice.

Welcome to the forum @tassy
Sorry to hear about your difficulties with your eyesight.
The forum has a ‘high contrast’ theme which you may find helpful? It was developed in line with guidance from the dyslexia society so uses a warm white background, and increases the contrast for things like outlines, slightly increases text size & spacing between the letters.
Your device (computer, phone or tablet) should also have overall controls for text size, where you should be able to set your default text size as larger to start with.
If you’d like to try the high contrast mode (or the dark mode) you will find them bottom-left of each forum page:

Click where it says ‘Default Theme’, and you’ll be able to select a different theme from the pop-up box

Hope that helps 🙂

I don't know what to change. It says type 2 on my profile.
Regarding my results, yes that was theHbA1D test. I was on Metformin last year, which was discontinued to my surprise.

I am wondering if this should actually be 53 rather than 153 as the number 7 in brackets afterwards, if it is the old % result would correspond to 53mmols/mol, which is certainly a LOT better than 153!

Anyway, hello and welcome from me too. If you can clarify your HbA1c result, it will help people to give appropriate advice because 153 will make people very anxious for your wellbeing and is of a level which suggest you should perhaps be in hospital. I think 53 is much more likely and hopefully correct.

I AM SO SORRY, IT IS 53....OOPS.

I AM SO SORRY, IT IS 53....OOPS.
Phew! That is much better!

Really sorry that you have gone through a tough time with bereavement, ill health and moving, which must have been unsettling as well as challenging and I think many of us can relate to comfort eating, but now is the time to take some positive steps to improve your health and improving your diet and getting a bit more exercise (doesn't have to be anything overly strenuous) should help to push your HbA1c back down a bit, but to be honest 53 isn't a desperately bad score and it could be argued that considering your mature years, it is not an unreasonable result and doesn't put you at significant risk of complications at least unless you plan to live to 150yrs or so and best of luck to you, if you do! 😉

At 53 I don't think you should worry to much and just make a few modest changes as I suggested before. I am relieved that 153 was not the number, thank goodness.
If you have mobility issues then there are some NHS seated exercises on the internet aimed at getting people moving a bit more.

It might be worth contacting your local gym or church hall - where we live the gym (council-run via Halo) runs classes for those less mobile including seated options plus various church halls have exercise classes for older people which also include seated options. Good for company plus improving balance to reduce the risk of falls
