At risk of diabetes
Hi there. Was told that I am prediabetic by my GP and the only advice he offered was to get tested again in 12 months. I have decided to make some changes to my lifestyle and find out as much as I can about Type 2 diabetes.

Welcome to the forum
A prediabetes diagnosis is basically a wake up call to make some changes mainly to your diet but getting more exercise if you are able.
The foods to be very careful of in either avoiding or reduce portions of are not only the more obvious cakes, biscuits, sugary drinks including fruit juice but all carbohydrates which convert to glucose. Making some modest changes should be all that is needed but in order to see what foods are ones you can tolerate less well then many find getting a home blood glucose test kit is helpful in showing you which foods are to be avoided but also indicate which foods you are OK with. Monitors can be bought on line, the ones with the cheaper test strips are the GlucoNavii or the TEE2.
Have a look at this link for a good explanation and some menu ideas which may suit you. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/

Did the doctor tell you your Hba1c level? Probably a number between 42 and 47 …?

Many people (myself included) find the lack of information and support from their GP quite frustrating. Have a good nose around this website and forum is a great place to start learning.

Welcome to the forum @Sueval and @JWHP

Glad you have found us!

Yes unfortunately you are not alone in having been told about your risk of diabetes, and then being left largely to your own devices!

The Learning Zone (orange tab in the main menu) is a great resource, packed full of handy bite-sized modules that you can work through at your own pace.

We have had lots of members joining ‘at risk of diabetes’ who have successfully made changes to improve their glucose levels and lose weight, and significantly reduce their risk of developing T2 diabetes 🙂

Keep asking away with any questions you have, and let us know how you get on 🙂
