Hi I was diagnosed with T2 about two months ago. Am 55, 89kg. Am pursuing a Keto diet with intermittent fasting. Keeping my BS within range with diet alone. Am one one Metformin tablet per day, having been told to stop Glyclazide after BS going close to low. On the steep learning curve. I'm told there are training courses ... where do I find them? Would prefer face to face if available. A.

I think you will find face to face ones have been cancelled for the time being. There is a Learning Zone on the main site and a online My Desmond.

Hopefully they might be reconvening soon. If schools can open and so long as Diabetics are not shielding, it should be possible! Thanks for your reply/help.

Good advice. I don’t see any face to face services opening any time soon and we really need to get to grips with online services, learning and assistance.

I should have been on a cardiac rehab course these last nearly five months but the facility has been closed. With some difficulty I got through a few days ago and was told although they are aiming to reopen at the end of August that’s unlikely. Staff reduced from eight to two and a backlog of 250 patients!

Dentists are in a no-win and many will collapse.

We need to help each other in here and take responsibility for ourselves.

Hello @geographica and welcome to the forum.
It sounds as if you are doing very well by keeping your BS in range.

Sorry, but I don't know of any face to face training courses at present.
Are there any particular things you need help and information about? There is a wealth of experience and knowledge amongst forum members and we will always try to answer any questions.

Just a thought ... depending on where you live Diabetes UK may have a local group, and although I doubt they will be running face to face meetings, some run ZOOM video link ups which may enable you to tap in to local help.
https://www.diabetes.org.uk/in_your_area may have some information.

I too do not see them reconvening soon.

Welcome to the forum Geographica from a fellow T2.
Information sessions: if and when they happen, which is available to you will depend on which area you're in. The names are Desmond, Xpert (note: not Expert Patient Programme (EPP)) or whatever your local provision is called.
Sometimes it's possible to find info out there and refer yourself. Try telling your GP practice.
There might also be separate Carbohydrate Awarness sessions Tec that you have to chase up yourself.

Here they are only offering video appointments or telephone calls.
I was a bit unsure of this at first but seems to be a good alternative.

I do wonder whether this will become the norm in the future and there are some benefits.
It can save a lot of people a long journey. I am only a 30 min walk away so I am happy going there, but I can see for others it could be a lot better.

I have looked at the online training course for T1 and it certainly includes all that I did when we met as a group. The only thing that is missing is meeting others with the same condition. That is where the Local group might help you. I know our local one are contacting new people and maintaining regular links via telephone or zoom.

Welcome to the forum @geographica

Another member here @ianf0ster also finds intermittent fasting and low-carb-high(er)-fat helpful for diabetes management.

Hope it isn’t too long before face to face courses open up in your area, but it sounds like you have made a great start in the mean time!
