Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Was diagnosed with T2 just a month into marriage, 6years ago. My wife was broken, new bride just getting used to being my life partner, to hear that her husband has got a terminal disease. But she's been super supportive. Helping with my drug regimen and diet. But Nigeria is a tough country to manage Diabetes. I've tried coming to the UK or any other country where drugs and hospital care is a basic availability, to help me stay alive longer for my wife and 3 beautiful girls.

Welcome to the forum @Pato45

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It is a shock at any age, but the good news is that this is a manageable condition. Many on here have found that they have used their diagnosis as a wake up call, and made changes to their diet and lifestyle due to their diabetes, have had a positive impact in other ways.

With Diabetes there is not enough insulin produced to deal with the glucose in the blood system. This glucose comes from any carbohydrates that are eaten, so it is good to hear that your partner is supporting you with the changes you are making. .

A useful exercise at the start can be to just find out how many carbs you are eating for each meal at present. The information about the carb content of foods is often available on any packaging, so armed with a set of scales, it is possible to workout the content. Once you know how many carbs you are eating at present you can then make changes by swapping to lower carb options and/or reducing portion sizes.

There is a lot of info available on here, and in the Learning Zone (a tab at the top of the page) . Also plenty of personal experience to tap into. Whatever your questions, just ask.

Thanks a lot @SB2015. I truly appreciate your reaching out to me. In Nigeria, fresh food isn't packed in such a manner that shows the carb contents. I just try my best by eating little of carb per time and replace with proteins and veggies. I avoid processed foods to the barest minimum.
