Hi, I was diagnosed T2 in 2004 and had annual checks until 3 years ago. Usually readings of 5-6
Variously controlled on Slow release Metformin. At one time Gliclazide but too many hypos and driving. Higher dose of Metformin seemed to be ok.
Now waking with headaches, readings of around 8-9 (high for me)
Last GP appt for blood test cancelled due to Covid and lack of blood vials.
Help. Advice please

Hi Millikins,
I think they're meant to be yearly (hopefully someone can correct me if I'm wrong), but if you're having headaches and higher readings, phone the GPs and make an appointment, don't wait to be called for a review. Tell the receptionist you need to get new blood tests, and see either the diabetes nurse or your GP as you're concerned.
It's better to see them sooner and put your mind at rest or get your medication looked at if it's causing you difficulties.
Look after yourself, Sarah
PS here's the NHS guidance on how often you should have your bloods checked and have reviews.

You say GP I don't have them for my Diabetes, though I have 6 monthly reviews with the Diabetic nurse.
You could contact your surgery for an appointment.

I'm still getting (almost) annual checks - by either Diabetes nurse or GP specialising in Diabetes. They still seem bemused that I don't need any diabetes medication.

Welcome to the forum @Millikins

Yes my surgery have found it more difficult to keep up with the regular ’30,000 jab service’ type checks since the pandemic threw several spanners in the works.

I have had a couple of video / phone appointments from my hospital pump clinic (I used to try to arrange my annual surgery/nurse review and my annual pump clinic to try to be about 6 monthly).

Like you when my last hospital phone call happened I was unable to get bloods done because of the shortage of vials, so I’ve actually not had an HbA1c since mid 2020. Fortunately I get a good sense of how my BGs are behaving because I self-fund a continuous glucose monitor to work with my insulin pump.

If you think things have changed, I would try to book a phone call or use the e-consult option from your surgery to get some support. I think the backlog and pressure on the system are likely to mean that routine invitations are unlikely to happen for a while yet - you need to ask for the help you need.
