Hi,

I've dropped a few posts already but thought it'd be rude not to properly introduce myself to you all.

I was diagnosed last year on National Diabetes day as type 1!!

I'm 32 6'2" and a steady 13 stone, fairly healthy although could do with being a buit more active.

It was following a family trip to Italy, were I ate and ate more pasta than you can shake a stick at. On the last day of the trip I couldn't really see much everything over 2 foot away was blurry. At the airport I couldn't read any of the large yellow signs at all, I don't need to say what the drive home was like - scarry!

So the first weekend home I read stuff online and decided I had type 1 diabetes, so I went to my GP. She didn't laugh at me but she wouldn't say that I was diabetic? She sent me to get my eyes tested, and for a fasting blood test. So I got some glasses and wore them for 2 days, then tried to get my money back (had to write to head office to get everything back mind)

The first tests back were 15.3, which I was told over the phone was practically a diagnosis so I should come in to see my GP. So I did I saw a locome and she said read websites and go for a second blood test. I did and this was 13.4, I wasn't told this over the phone as they don't give results over the phone? SO I came in saw my GP she told me the result but still didn't know what was going on!? So she phoned the hospital who phoned me and got me to pop in the next day and they said there's no doubt I'm type 1, so get injecting! She kept saying I should be iller than I am if I'm type 1? Didn't understand that, but I was fine injecting and off I went.

I since have been in regular contact with the nurse and all is well. But as I see from these message boards there's lots to learn, so thanks to the creators of this site.

Its interesting to hear all about your diagnosis and your take on it. It is strange how the process goes and what people say to us isnt it? I found out on Valentines Day, as if wasnt bad enough being single that year???!

Welcome. Ive only been on here a minascule amount of time myself.....but Im learning and experiencing from what people are writing and I have logged on wherever I can to see whats occurring (keeps me off of facebook constantly too!).

Stay well and take care!

Hey all,

here is a little bit about myself also.

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in jan 2005, aged 14 and weighed 6 and a half stone, Im now up at 9 stone which im pleased about.

I dont know where the time has gone, its kinda weird cause it feels like i have always been a diabetic, i like cant quite remember what it was like to eat your meals without taking insulin lol strange i know. My blood sugar was 26 at the time of diagnosis. I have always taken my own injections from day one, i like to be in control of it, i think thats why i hate blood tests so much because your not in control of the needle and plus thats much bigger lol

I take novorapid and lantus and I am currently waiting to go on the dafne course in september which im looking forward too.

anyway thats a brief bit about mee

xxx
