Hello! Or as it's the afternoon, pryn day! I've been diabetic for a number of years. I think, maybe around 20 years. (Type 2 by the way.) I'm on diamicron for it. My doctor's latest attempt was to put me on ozempic. But it made me rather ill and I gave it up two years ago. Darn thing keeps turning up in my prescription now and then though. I used to go to a lovely diabetes nurse. But then she left and was replaced by a rather unpleasant woman. She rattles off numbers and I have no idea what they mean. She sent me to a psychiatrist for 9 months as she reckoned I was hiding my head in the sand. I have twice been referred to a diabetes class in my area. However, they failed completely to tell me where, what time and what day the classes were being held. Apparently I was not psychic enough. I would still love to do the course, as after all these years, I have no idea at all. In the meantime I have neuropathy in my left foot, which is getting worse. I have a smorgasbord of other ailments, from Meniere's to arthritis and all points in between. You have to laugh, or you'd cry.

Welcome to the forum
Sorry you haven't managed to get to grips with managing your condition perhaps you will pick up some tips here to help.
The medication you are on is gliclazide (diamicron must be a brand name) which encourages the pancreas to produce more insulin if it is able and whereas many find a low carb approach successful with that medication you have to be careful with going too low on carbs. It is a matter of finding the balance of what your body can tolerate with not risking too low blood glucose because of the medication.
You should have been prescribed a home testing blood glucose monitor because of that medication so you could use that to find what meals are suitable without increasing blood glucose too much.
Keeping your blood glucose well managed will help with the neuropathy as well as helping with other issues and minimising the risk of more unpleasant consequences.
With an element of caution about low carb have a look at this link for some ideas for making some changes to your diet, it has lots of information which will be very informative as well as some meal plans to suit various tastes. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/

Hi @Eunice61 and welcome to the forum!

What a journey you've had! I'm sorry to hear that they haven't appropriately communicated where and how you can get the information you need. I know it can feel like an uphill battle sometimes, but please do ask about the classes as people find them quite useful, even much later down the line in their diagnosis.

I can see you've been diagnosed a while back, but you might find something handy in our Learning Zone here. Have a read around the threads in the forum too - everyone's situations are different, but there's plenty of gathered experience to learn from. Feel free to ask whatever queries you might have or simply rant after a tough day - we have a great support network here and someone's bound to have an answer and an ear to spare. 😉
