Hi Highlander, welcome to the forum 🙂 We have quite a few people here who have had experience of Byetta, so hopeflly they will be able to help you out if you have any questions 🙂
How have things been going for you over the years, and what has prompted the move to Byetta?
Hi Northerner,
For the first few years and several changes of pills, I have had no real problems. Then in 2011 I was diagnosed with a leaking Mitral heart valve, which causes me to be breathless. Then it was found I have a couple of blocked arteries so stents were diagnosed.
That is when all the problems started. While on the operating table I had a heart attack while the third stent was being inserted. This resulted in a week in cardiac care due to complications. It was decided I had Dresslers Syndrome, which is inflamation of the lining of the heart. I was told this takes about a year to get over. I ended up taking 900mg of Aspirin three times a day for several months. It has just about cleared up after over twelve months.
During this time I was taken off Pioglitazone and left of max dose of Gliclazide. Recently my BG readings started to rise and stay high, anything up to 17, when I was normally no more than 8 or 9 after a meal. So the GP has decided to put me on Byetta to see if this will help.
One doc says I need another Stent, his boss says no. Both the GP and me are still waiting for the results of my last Echocaardiogram as the hospital are not very good at communicating. So I have to wait until somethime next month to find out what is happening next.
My own thoughts on this is that I am 70, diabetic with heart problems, no one really wants to know. Such is life with the NHS in Scotland.
