Type 2
Hi I was diagnosed Type 2 in 2010 and had no real problems until this year, I lost my hubby (of over 40 years) in 2015 and lost all motivation to keep blood sugar under control, I still managed somehow to be OK, and then in August my readings went sky high, and I was feeling really unwell, weight piled on although I have always been overweight, I managed to creep into obese without noticing. I have now lost 1.5 stone using low carb diet, and have been on a Xpert 6 week course, next lot of blood tests due in November, although I am still getting higher than I want readings on my monitor. I do have an infection, and am on antibiotics, so that might not help.

Hi sandram, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your loss :( Good news that you have started to turn things around 🙂 As Grovesy says, infections and antibiotics will often lead to higher levels, so hopefully once the infection is dealt with you will start to see improvements in your levels 🙂

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns and we will be more than happy to help you 🙂

You’ve had a very rough time Sandram so well done you for picking yourself back up and making efforts to get back on track. I’m sure your levels will steady when the infection clears. Unfortunately the body goes into overdrive when we are ill and produces glucose we don’t need. Best wishes and keep persevering 🙂

Hello sandram, welcome to the forum 🙂 and well done on your weight loss.

Very sorry you lost your OH. :(

Hello sandram and a warm welcome to this forum. I'm sorry to read of your struggles to maintain in range bgls ~ this doesn't come as surprise as having an infection will elevate your levels. Once the infection clears up you will find your bgls will lower and more particularly if you keep to the low carb diet that you are on. There is a useful Thread here called *What did you eat yesterday*. Why not drop in there to see what other members are eating. Just go to Diabetes Support Forum's and scroll down to Food/carb queries & recipes.

Scroll down a little further and you will see a Thread called The Weight Loss Group. Everyone supports & encourages each other there and makes losing weight enjoyable as opposed to a daily grind! Very well done on your weight loss to date ~ it isnt easy to lose the weight.

Pleased also to read, like myself, that you have attended the X-pert program.

May I offer my sincere condolences on the loss of your husband.

Take care and do please stay in touch as to your progress. We all support each other here. x

As an afterthought sandram there is a book called the CARB & CALORIE COUNTER. It is a great tool for people with diabetes who count carborhydrates as part of the management of their condition ~ weight management ~ portion control and general healthy eating. This highly visual approach makes it incredibly quick and easy to see the nutrient content of the food and drink you consume. If you don't already have this book then I can highly recommend it. Many other folk on here have found it very helpful too. Amazon £10.49.

Also, whilst I appreciate you have lived with diabetes for some 17years there is another book which you might like to read to refresh your mind about your diabetes. It's called Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker. She herself has had Type2 Diabetes since 1996 and educated herself on every aspect of this chronic condition. Amazon Paperback: £10.99...... Kindle edition: £7.49.
Happy reading🙂 x

I have the carb and calorie counter and yes its very good, its helping me lose weight, I am hoping once the infection clears up my BG will improve as well, I have just read on another post that peoples tolerance of carbs differ so will have to check before and after I eat higher carb foods, going for a blood test in a weeks time, fingers crossed for better results than in august thanks for advice x
