I am a fit 71 year old who loves sailing and I have coped with Diabetes since I was diagnosed at the age of 41. I am insulin dependent and have been on Libre2 sensors for just under 1 year now, this along with taking part in the Zoe microbiome research project have been very informative. I go for a walk with our dog twice a day along the Crigyll Beach close to our house.

Daily beach walks with the dog sound lovely - though I suspect it can be less inviting when the rain is sideways!

Are you on pens or a pump? How has your diabetes treated you over the last 30 years? Are there any frustrations, annoyances or confusions that have encouraged you to compare notes with others living with T1 at this time?

Been years since we've been anywhere remotely near Crigyll or indeed on the same island. Lovely area - in good weather. Thought the ZOE thing was more aimed at T2 and their diet/ behaviour?

Hi there. Crigyll beach at Rhosneiger? If so, beautiful place and somewhere we go every year. We went to the Oyster Catcher last month for my son’s 21st birthday. That was my first meal in a restaurant since diagnosis - it all happens at Rhosneiger! 🙂

Thanks for all the messages. I am on Lantus and Novo Rapid pens. The Zoe project is for the study of the Gut Biome and although, as a diabetic, I am not able to record my blood glucose readings as part of their study it has been very useful with suggestions on how to pair particular foods to flatten my blood sugar curve. e.g. banana and meridian crunchy peanut butter. The app gives a breakdown of the elements of your meals and how this is dealt with by your individual gut biome. Both the Net Carbs and Total Carbs are recorded in the app and the nutritional help is first rate. We'd love to see you at our holiday let, Celyn Y Mor!
