Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi, I am recently diagnosed with type 2 and prescribed glyclazide twice a day. Seems to be keeping levels down OK combined with diet. Just had the H... whatever it is, blood test last week.

I am hoping on here I will get help with advice on muscle and feet pain and feeling cold a lot of the time.

So very glad to find this forum and hello to everybody.🙂

Hi Nick, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It's more than possible that the problems you are experiencing are temporary and thing will improve as you get your blood sugar levels under control. Do have a look in our Useful links thread for some good resources and information that will help you understand and get to grips with things. I'd particularly recommend reading Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter, and the book Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker to give you a good, positive view of how things can be handled.

Let us know how the HbA1c goes, and if you have any questions, there is a wealth of information here, plus lots of experienced people happy to share it 🙂

Hi Nick !

Are you on any other medication perchance, including for anything that isn't diabetes?

Hi Nick
Welcome! I'm still quite new so don't have much useful advice, but I can tell you that when my blood sugar was high I had really bad muscle aches and was constantly cold. Now they're more under control the aches have subsided, and I'm less cold, so when you get your levels down you might feel better too. Everyone on here is really nice and helpful, and it helps to talk to people who know how it feels 🙂

Welcome to the forum Nick 🙂

Hi there, Nick.🙂

Hi Nick and welcome x
I can so relate to the being cold thing...my hands more than anything have been freezing since diagnoses.Ive never been so happy to see the sun and get a bit of heat.I was diagnosed 6 months ago and my levels are good...so ive no idea why really

I was diagnosed at the end of May 2008 and even though it was a good summer I shivered the whole way through it. I even got chilblains on my toes for the first time since being a small child 😱 It took several months before I started to feel normal again.

Hi Nick, I was diagnosed in September 2009 and had been very ill for a few weeks before that. I had feet and hands like blocks of ice and just couldn't get warm. It's not so bad now I have the diabetes pretty much under control (touch wood).

Hi Nick and welcome 🙂

I hope things begin to improve for you soon and you start to feel less achy and cold. I have a hot water bottle all the time to keep my hands warm! I'm occasionally brave enough to go without it in mid August when the temperature gets into the 80's! 😱
