I do remember other people talking about me in those terms in the 90s, so perhaps it’s something that has thankfully disappeared!
Do you use pens or a pump? And which insulins do you favour? Any fancy gadgets like CGM to help you?

I meant that people used to say things like that when I was younger (I’ve had Type 1 30 years) and it was very annoying! So, I thought maybe you’d had similar said to you and your name was a dig or irony or a joke about that 🙂
On a serious note, apart from the annoyance of being told we can’t eat things, I used to think that it also misled people. I won’t bore you with the whole story but there was an incident in a local shop where a person with Type 1 had a hypo and the shop-worker insisted that people with diabetes couldn’t eat sugar. Poor person had a bad hypo because of this ignorance. So the comments can be dangerous as well as irritating.

The worst case of 'can't eat sugar' was MasterChef a couple of years ago. Mind you when I was first diagnosed 57 years ago I didn't/couldn't. No tech in those days! Very strict dietary requirements.

My mum still sometimes comments about foods at shared meals focussed primarily on whether they may or may not have been a small amount of sucrose added, as to whether I will be able to eat them. 🙂
