Hello good people of the Diabetes UK Community.

My name is Marcos. I've never been diagnosed with diabetes but I do have concerns that I may have a blood sugar issue.
I also have Addisons disease which is a rare autoimmune disorder causing adrenal insufficiency and hypocortisolism. It is a long-term endocrine disorder in which the adrenal glands do not produce enough steroid hormones.
The trouble with Addisons is that many patients go on to develop diabetes or another autoimmune disorder after initial diagnosis.

So why do I suspect that I may have diabetes?

Well, apart from many months of night sweats and the need to drink a lot more, over the last few months I've developed bad palpitations every time I eat, which feel much worse if the mean or snack was high carb or sugar based.
My wife suggested I buy a blood testing device and last night, about 30 mins after our evening meal of oven cooked fish and chips we tested each other.

My wifes reading was 14.4mmol and my reading was 8.8. In fact my wife was also concerned about her reading which did appear high, but having little or knowledge of what these results mean, we did another test an hour later.
On the 2nd test my wife was at 12.1 whilst I had only risen to 9.

Ok, moving on.
This morning about 2 hours after waking and having had no food, my wife suggested we do another test.
This time, the results were not what we expected.
My wife had a low reading of 4.5 but I had a reading of 14.5 which was surprising, as all I had consumed was 2 coffees with a little milk and no sugar.

But what do these results mean if anything? I must admit, we have no idea.

We have tried to search the internet for answers but there is little reference given to high readings for non diabetics.

We rather hope that someone may be able to offer a little advice.

Thank you for listening to my ramblings.
We suspect that everything is probably fine and we are just being overcautious.

Just for additional information, we are both in our early 50's considered slim and generally active, although over winter I have put a few pounds on my tummy but waist is still 34ins.

Hi Marcos, as @Benny G has said, it’s a good idea to test over a few days, might also be worth tracking it with a food diary

Thank you both for taking the time to reply.
We will do as instructed and keep a diary for several days in the hope that it may just be a one off.
I also forgot to mention that only recently I was surprisingly told that I also had pancreatic insufficiency and have been prescribed Creon capsules at it appears that my Pancreas has suddenly stopped producing digestive enzymes. I really do hope that my pancreas hasn't stopped making insulin too.
I'll update shortly.

Should I create a new thread in the appropriate forum?
I hadn't really intended for my introductory post to mention our concerns but just want to be sure I'm posting in the right place.

Hello @Marcos from another Addisonian 🙂
