Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum but not new to living with Type 2 diabetes after having been diagnosed 21 years ago. Now aged 73 I am retired from my role as a Clinical Advisor in the NHS and University Lecturer.
I have struggled with weight all the time and in late 2019 was advised I would require insulin if my HbA1c wasn't better controlled. My medication had been increased over the years and consisted of Metformin 500mg three times per day, Trulicity injection weekly ( moved from Exenotide twice a day).
I had also been diagnosed with Retinopathy and had Laser treatment twice with no more further treatment to be done as the leakage was too close to the Macula. This condition remained stable until 2021 when early stage diabetic maculopthy was diagnosed.
I decide that I needed to do something about this urgently. Even though as a health professional who had an understanding of Type 2 diabetes I was struggling.
My HbA1c was 63, BMI 32, weight 12stone 8lbs. I felt terrible, lethargic, brain fiddled, inactive, less motivated and depressed about my appearance.
I had tried calorie counting but nothing worked very well. I had lost 1 stone the previous year but couldn't get any further.
