Hi Ian, welcome to the forum. Interesting introduction, made me smile! I am not really a people person but I have to say that it’s easier to handle on a forum than face to face, the idea of group support gives me the heebie jeebies 😱 Everyone here is great though, loads of real lived experience and I know my last year would read very differently if it wasn’t for the advice and information those with more experience shared to help me find my way. Your HbA1C is looking good so you obviously got the hang of things.

Hi Ian and welcome from me too.
Interesting first post... I'm struggling with some of your abbreviations but we are on the same page as regards LCHF.
Your poll sounds like a challenge to our diplomatic abilities. I hope we don't disappoint and you manage to stick with us longer that 3 months.
You seem to be making good progress with your diabetes management. I hope that continues. Look forward to reading further contributions from you.

Excellent result in my book Ian, being banned from DCUK. I got myself permanently banned years and years ago by basically saying one day when someone was being completely castigated and bullied for not low carbing, hang on a minute, we are all different and YMMV. I was annoyed - online health forums are sposed to support folk - but have never regarded it personally as any loss!

Welcome to the forum Ian. I too hope you manage to stick with us more than three months 🙂

Welcome Ian
Results looking good so glad that you have found strategies that are working for you.
Plenty of support available on here from people who ‘get it’, and lots of different approaches.

Hi Jenny,
I didn't set out to get banned, but their Forum rules make it almost inevitable for my personality.
This is especially a problem for me when I am informed that I have post a response to something and I am warned for taking the a thread 'off topic' (yet it seems quite reasonable in the whole context of the thread to me), or when told I have posted something that criticises the Moderator and yet I have no idea why it is interpreted that way.
still I'm not permanently banned there (yet).

Hi SB2015,
I'm not really here for support. I just want newly diagnosed T2's to be given better advice (more appropriate to T2) and support from their Health Care Profesionals.

Like almost all, I was basically told to stick with the same EatWell and 5 A Day with lots of healthy whole grain carbs - but to cut down on my (non-existent) free sugar intake. We last bought tale Sugar around 2001 and still have a little left for guests who take it in tea or Coffee. So this dietary advice amounted to continue with same High Carb, very Low Fat diet I'd had for over 10yrs, which had seen me need a 3X Coronary Artery Bypass and then Type 2 Diabetes, and expect different results!

Of course I was also warned against Blood Glucose testing - just rely on the 3 monthly HbaA1C. As if you would only check your speedometer once per day to make sure you weren't speeding!

Hello @ianf0ster

Welcome to the forum. We hope you’ve found a useful source of support and information here. Diabetes can be a frustrating and fickle beast and what works for one will not necessarily work for someone else (either physiologically or psychologically).

If you are unsure about our moderating approach here you can check the user guidelines here https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/boards/threads/user-guidelines.75331/

Looking forward to reading more of your story 🙂

Hi Barbara,
How long I stay is more up to the Moderators than to ordinary Forum members. - LOL!
Abbreviations: TOFI = Thin Outside, Fat Inside i.e. fat around internal organs (such as in Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease etc.)
T2 = Type 2 Diabetes
BG = Blood Glucose
IF = Intermittent Fasting (most usually means skipping Breakfast and only eating 2 or 1 meals per day in an 8hr or a 6hr 'window')

Thanks everydayupsanddowns,
It is the way that the rules are interpreted that caused me most problems 'over there'.
Also they have a lot more of them, and since some of them go against my nature it is easy to forget an land myself in trouble.

Well you won’t get much of an argument from us on this forum , so many of us have suffered from similar or poor advise. Folks are trying to change things but it’s going to be a long haul.

Hi again Ian
Thanks for enlightening me. I eventually got the IF but it took me half a day of mulling it over whilst I was doing my chores... Doh! Of course I know BG and T2 but the TOFI had me completely baffled. I sometimes wonder if some of the Type 2s who are not obviously overweight may eventually turn out to LADA, but can be controlled for years sometimes by careful low carb diet and/or medication, that they often don't get a proper diagnosis.
Hopefully your LCHF diet will help you to lose the fatty liver and feel healthier.
