I was diagnosed on Friday and have spent the weekend finding out as much as I can. I was diagnosed after tests following my recent TIA. Looking forward to learning more about it and how to cope with it.

Hello Jacki and welcome to our club. I am sorry to hear that you have recently suffered a TIA and hope you are recovering well. You will find this forum very helpful and everyone is very nice, encouraging and with lots of experience. Having said that I was only diagnosed in Jan so I’m not one of those! However I do know that other than the known sugary foods that you must avoid another really important thing is carbs such as bread, rice, pasta and potatoes etc. You will need to change to a low carb diet which to begin with can be rather difficult depending on your lifestyle, obviously because of your recent TIA you may need to discuss diet further with either your GP or diabetes nurse/and or dietician just to make sure you are getting everything you need. You haven’t mentioned if you are on any diabetic medication or what your HbA1c was. Try not to get overloaded with information as it is a day at a time but you are welcome to ask any questions at all and there will always be someone who can help you. Kind regards to you Jacki and best of luck with your recovery and adapting to your diabetes.

Welcome Jacki. Having the TIA must have been a scary experience for you, hope your recovery has gone well. You will get loads of support here so do read through as much as you can and ask any questions you might have :D

Hello Jacki and welcome from another Cornish resident 🙂 I hope you are recovering well from your TIA

Welcome. Sorry you’ve found yourself here.

Forgive my ignorance but what is a TIA?

Hi, it is a stroke (transischemic attack), not very nice!

Ah...thank you. No idea why I’d never heard it referred to that way before. Unpleasant.

No reason why you should have done, everyone refers to it as a stroke, I only know coz I’m a medical secretary. Have a good day Merrymunkey.
