Welcome Swanny from a fellow T2

Welcome

Hi Swanny, welcome to the group.....

Good on you for wanting to control D without the insulin, however, many T2's on this forum do use insulin & find it invaluable for helping to control their D & many others control through diet & exercise & perhaps Metformin

If you give some information about your goals, current diet & exercise then we may be able to give you some advice

Hi Swanny57, welcome to the forum 🙂 Have you tried testing before and two hours after eating to try and determine your tolerances for different food choices? This is probably the best way to gain good control whilst enjoying a varied diet, and may help you to start reducing your medication. Have a read of Test,Review, Adjust by Alan S to understand how to do this efficiently and effectively. Bear in mind that, as you are on insulin, you shouldn't make immediate, drastic changes to your diet - try to make it a more gradual process so that you can monitor your levels safely. What insulin are you using, and what doses? I'd also recommend reading Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter which contain some very wise words on how to manage your diabetes well 🙂

Let us know if you have any questions and we will be very happy to help! 🙂

Hi Swanny...not sure there is an easy induction to diabetes...she can be a cruel mistress...good to hear your levels are stable...I can't offer any advice on insulin...using Metformin only...as for whether you can stop using it...again no advice on that...some type 2 members swear by insulin...has made a real difference to their control/lives...however...we do have some members who have managed to significantly reduce their insulin intake...and one in particular on two different types who has been able to stop using one of her insulin's...and is reducing her dose of the second...I'm sure (hope) she won't mind me mentioning her...@Hazel...of course any change to your medication should only occur with the support and agreement of your health care team... I agree with Northerner any changes should be introduced gradually...I was so impatient when I started this journey...now I appreciate a sure steady approach brings the best results...good luck... be interested to hear of your progress.
