I was diagnosed a few years ago and control with medication. I have been told to lose weight but really struggle with this even though I joined slimming world and stuck religiously to plan. I would love some pointers on how I can reduce my weight as my Drs are not really any help.

Hi Chris welcome, I'm type 2 and controlling by low carb diet and exercise, I rarely have bread, pasta, rice and potatos and avoid most root veg these days, It was hard at first but after a couple of weeks I felt so much better and am losing weight. Do you self test your bood so you know which foods you can tolerate?

I'm sure others will be along soon to offer more advice and any questions please fire away.

Hello to Chris.

Hi Chris I was diagnosed in Jan. As far as losing weight I am doing ok I have lost 20kg since then. TBH I have just cut out silly carbs like Bread, Cakes, Rice, most root veg. Exercise regular but not intense. I hve cut out alcohol completely at I don't really miss it. Cut out a couple of food groups and go from there. Many said as a Type II no need to meter but I found that I got userd to finding the foods and portion sizes that didn't spike my sugar too much.

Hi Rob, Thank you for the welcome. I have never been told what are good and bad things to eat and have been encouraged to eat the things you have cut out. I don't monitor my blood gloucose levels but do have a check at the Drs every 6 months. I'm taking three different tablets twice a day and have been told two of them are weight gaining. I'm so fed up with getting no guidance with my diabetes that I've decided to try and find things out for myself.

Hi goosey Thanks for the welcome. Yes I have still been eating rice/pasta/pots and bread but found I lost 0.5lbs or nothing which was soul destroying when I kept to plan. I will try cutting out the carbs and see how I get on.

Hi Bryan. I don't eat cakes or biscuits as I'm not big on sweet things. I do however eat a lot of fruit which I now know isn't good because of the natural sugar in them. I shall take note of what everyone has said and have a good look at my diet. Thank you.

Hi Chris and welcome.

I think the diet issue is one that needs a careful personal attention. everyone is different. I love blueberries and scoff them and cashew nuts like a pig. I also like a small apple each day non of which seems to drastically spike my BG. GRAPES are a no no for everyone I think. Again its about finding a portion size that sorta works with everything else and there is no substitute for trial and error. As for exercise I have a bike that I need to get on more than I do. I cycle 10/15 miles at a comfortable pace and it brings my BG down into 4's. I love double cream with everything as well. Advice if I can give it is not to worry and to just methodically try foods and portions making sure the food is a balance and to look to get a bit puffed out for fifteen mins a day a two mile walk at a bit of a clip can do that.

Hi Bryan I have decided to have a go at cutting out pasta/rice and pots and changed my white bread to wholemeal, I will ration that to no more than 2 slices a day. I have stocked up on a lot of different green veggies, some of these I shall make soup with. I'm 73 yrs old and also have COPD so exercise is very limited but I do try to get out and walk a bit each day.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Bread spikes me something chronic as I found out again just now. 🙄

Hi goosey, I only use small loaves and count as HEXB. I have cut all carbs this week and lost the 6lbs I put on while on holiday so I'm a happy bunny this week. I guess you don't need any extra exercise and I love your excuse lol. Will wait and see what this week brings.
