Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi all, I've had Type 2 for around 25 years now and, so far all has kept well with tablets and good diet. Weight has dropped pretty well and the last annual MOT showed encouraging downward signs in all areas, so I feel pretty good.

Managed to cope reasonably well in the current situation, although food supply is difficult!
Can't get a home delivery for love nor money!!

They keep say in that I am not considered 'vulnerable' for priority delivery, despite being a 73 years old diabetic!!

Tried to register on the Gov.uk site but, when you come to the qualifying list of conditions, Diabetes does not appear on it, so my request id deleted!! Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but when the list first came out on the BBC website, Diabetes was one of the first on the list!

Has anyone else found the same situation? and what, if anything did you do about it?

My Wife, 70, also has a major immune deficiency syndrome that makes it very difficult if she gets any sort of infection, and I don't want her anywhere near a hospital at present if I can help it!!
She has registered on Gov.UK successfully, but still no reply, or help after a week. I know they are over run but an acknowledgement at least would be nice.

I'm loathe to go out to get groceries, and join the scrum, but I'm feeling forced too.
I do have some wonderful neighbours who help, but they too have their problems!

Thank god for a big garden that my wife and I can exit in to, but not enough veg being grown there yet!!

Answers welcome please.

Welcome to the forum @Bob Perry

And congratulations on quarter of a century of diabetes well lived!

Yes there is understandable confusion when the media, and occasionally government spokesman people seem to have suggested different designations for different conditions (including diabetes and asthma).

The ‘full isolation’ list includes immunocompromised, those having chemo, and some other cancers, cystic fibrosis, and a number of other conditions which would make a a severe case of coronavirus very difficult.

The official .gov advice has been very consistent throughout, and that is that people with diabetes, while ‘at risk’ are not in that very high risk category unless there are other complicating factors.

So we are ‘strongly advised’ to keep to social distancing measures and to leave the house as little as possible, to keep our distance and to avoid contact with people wherever possible - BUT we can still go out for exercise, and to collect shopping (as infrequently as possible).

There are some GPs who are contacting particular people with diabetes (and other long term conditions) who have other complicating factors that make self isolation more appropriate.

If you be,Ive you shocked be self isolating, but haven’t had notifications to do so, you are recommended to contact your GP

Keep well, and look after yourself!

Welcome to the forum @Bob Perry

Good to read that your latest checks are showing a downward trend.
If there is anything that the forum can help with, just ask.
I have learnt most of what I know from others on here.
