Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Greetings from wet Cheshire.
I'm just saying hello to everyone. I've been Type1 for 45 yrs and thank goodness I'm still here. I've just signed up to DiabetesUK for the year.
It's odd they still won't let you renew your membership online. But I suppose they know best. Anyway. I'm now set up with an annual direct debit from my bank to auto renew yearly.

My name is Paul. And I was diagnosed with T1 on 1978 02 27. That date will always stay with me. It was two day's before my 14th Birthday. Mum's sister has T1 so Mum suspected something was amiss. Sure enough a pee test, showed that I had Diabetes. What a for a young teenager it was. Thanks to research. Diabetes has gotten at lot easier to manage in those 45 years. And I'm grateful I'm still here.

Hello @Firefly ,

Welcome to the forum and thank you so much for sharing your story with us. How are you managing your diabetes now?

Hi Paul and welcome to the forum, it sounds like the forum will benefit from your 45 years of experience. I'm a
type 2 and only diagnosed a year ago at the age of 78 so I'm still a learner. Thanks to the knowledgeable forum members I'm a lot wiser now and feel a lot happier from when first diagnosed.

Oh, @Firefly and it's wet here too, been raining since the early hours and has not stopped yet....

Hello @Firefly ,

Hi Josh.
I'm using Fiasp three x a day. And Degludec. The game changed for me. Is Freestyle Libra 2. Know more finger pricks or urine testing. I have and use pen injection devices and 4mm needles. But. It's still a day to day battle to keep my sugar in reasonable levels.

Welcome @Firefly 🙂 I’ve had Type 1 a decade and a half less than you, and it became very tedious very quickly! If only our blood sugars would follow the rules!

I agree that CGMs are fantastic. I love mine so much.

Hi and welcome @Firefly glad you’ve joined us

Cgm is such an eye opener to all the ups & downs finger stick tests could never show, glad you’re finding it so game changing.

I’m another from the class of ‘78, it feels both ages back & hardly any time ago. Really grateful for tech advances.
