Hi saralou, welcome to the forum 🙂 It sounds like you have a fair bit of experience of diabetes behind you - I will look forward to hearing more from you 🙂 What sort of pump do you use, and did you have any problems getting it?

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, there is always something new to learn, plus we try and have a lot of fun here too 🙂

Welcome to the forums saralou 🙂

hi again
yes i prob do have lots of diabetes experiance but feeling very down heartened at moment because whatever i do hba1c seems to stay the same (always around 8!) my previous dr thought i was a high glycosulator? but not sure! hoping to pick up some tips that maybe i'm missing..
i'm using a paradigm minimed pump and have so for 5years!i was quite lucky in that my diabetic dr got me on the pump as his kind of guinea pig so i think he even funded it initally!! have to say the pump is soo amazing and don't know what i'd do without it!!
feel free to ask me any questions too? as maybe i have info that might be of use to someone!

So where are your problem areas currently................?

Hi saralou. Welcome 🙂

It will be interesting to hear about your regime and how you manage things. We may be able to (collectively) help you to tweak things so you can lower that HbA1c below the magic 7.:D

btw. What's a high glycosulator ?😱

Hi Sara and a warm welcome to the forum

thats my problem i don't think i have any prob areas (maybe slightly high before bed) but hba1c is never really in 7's. once about 5 years ago i got it to low 7's but was constantly hypo. i'm currently investigating whether Northerner above is right and i would always have a higher than normal hba1c for my meter readings?? its so frustrating because i think diabetes clinic think i'm lying!!

Hi Sara

Welcome to the forum! What are you're meter averages if you don't mind my asking? Hopefully your team will see these and realise that you are telling the truth 🙂

Welcome to the forum Saralou!

I'm a type 2 so our paths may not cross too often on the forum .... well, unless you give the 'island' thread on the off subject forum a visit (but it is a little quiet there these days, I think it's in need of a new setting).

Andy 🙂

Saralou may correct me, but I think it means someone who naturally shows a higher than normal HbA1c because the red blood cells hang on to more glucose.

Thanks Alan. 🙂

I wonder if a fructosamine test would give a more accurate reading, as with anaemics ?

Is the converse also true? Is it possible for the HbA1c to be lower than expected too?

Andy 🙂

If you're anaemic, then the cells deteriorate sooner and your Hb will be lower, I believe.🙂

The fructosamine gives a more accurate figure but only for 1 or 2 weeks previous.
