Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I have been type II for 37 years, however er the impact is starting to show.
I am only 67, and feel life is just so uncomfortable. Constant pain in feet, hands, legs, abdomen, and despite blood tests and scans show nothing untoward. My bloods run around 7 on average, however I take masses of insulin, despite not eating a great deal.
I will listen to any advice I can get.
I've already had gall bladder removed, and quadruple bypass, but struggling with the smallest of tasks.
It's difficult for me to understand how my life has deteriorated to this over the past few years

CJ

Hi CJ! Welcome to the forum, hope you had a nice bank holiday weekend.

I'm so sorry to hear about all the pain you're in, that does sound really uncomfortable. Is there anything that you currently do to help manage it? And have you sought support from the GP or your diabetes team about the pain?

You did good to come to the forum! I'm sure someone will share their experience with you and provide some advice 🙂

Hope you have a lovely evening

Thank you so much for your reply to my post.
I seem to be stuck between my GP and Diabetic Consultant. Was just at Gp yesterday for 4th time this year he puts pain down to my having Diabetes, which he feels is uncontrolled. I showed him evidence for the past 3 months my hba1c has averaged 7...he just says talk to Consultant. I waited 10 months for last appointment, she will say go to GP if pain is too much.
I've had neuropathy in feet for at least 10 years, but getting unbearable. The pain I have now is in my upper back and right hand chest, then now in left kidney area. Bloods coming back normal apart from glucose, urine shows no sign of infection, I've had an ultra sound showed small area of fatty liver.
I'm having a CT scan on 21st July.
Im 67, and can't believe I'll be spending the rest of my time on this earth in so much pain.

That's no worries at all!
Gosh - it's so difficult nowadays to be seen. The waiting times are just horrendous at the moment! Did he say why he feels it's uncontrolled? Sounds like the GP has not been very helpful... I saw the NHS website recommends Capsaicin cream. Have you looked into this before?

Fingers crossed for you - I'm hopeful you won't be in pain for too much longer. Don't give up on speaking to professionals and hoping someone will finally recommend or prescribe a useful treatment or medication!

I was prescribed that cream several years ago, unfortunately I'm allergic to it.
GP was dismissive, and unhelpful. I've always rated our NHS, but feel let down generally at the moment

Sorry to hear you aren’t feeling well supported @cj56

Long term pain can be such a challenge to live with - hope the scans you have coming up shed a little light on things.

Good to hear you have insulin to help you manage your blood glucose levels. From reading experiences of others on the forum who live with neuropathy, reducing glucose variation and instability certainly seems to help.

Sorry to hear you were allergic to the cream you were offered :( Have you tried using a TENS machine to help block nerve signals - some on the forum have found that helps.

Has your Dr suggested an HbA1c target that they feel may help? Do you know what your most recent HbA1c was?

When are you monitoring your glucose levels to get your average BG. Have you been checking your results after meals? That can be a way to identify hidden ‘spikes’ in blood glucose that may be contributing to nerve pain flareups?
