Hello, thank you all for replying to me I am overwhelmed already 🙂 Yes my HbA1c was 51, I had other blood tests taken last week and I was 9.1 and 12.9, I am not sure what these mean to be honest. No meds yet she said see what I can do with diet for now. Will go back in early February. I am 5ft 2 and just turned 59 last month. I have lived in Scotland for 12 years but I am from Northern Ireland. I work full time in an office so not much exercise happening there and while we were in lock down I ate lots of rubbish daily! In April I was not very well but put it down to a bad cold but I ended up with lots of strange symptoms, breathless, dizzy, headaches. The Dr informed me 2 weeks ago I had all the classic symptoms of Long Covid. She decided to do some blood tests and I was told yesterday I have Type 2 diabetes. Sorry maybe too much information!Diagnosed yesterday with Type 2 Diabetes. 😳 Now the work begins to eat well and get that weight off. Not sure what all the numbers information means yet but I will be reading a lot at nights now. Take care x
Was this a finger prick/spot check. That would be your BG at that moment. This varies through out the day, and from day to day.I had other blood tests taken last week and I was 9.1 and 12.9, I am not sure what these mean to be honest.
Hi Ralph, Thank you for taking the time to answer me. No it was blood taken after fasting which then lead to a very large drink and two hours later more blood taken. This was then sent to the hospital for testing. The HbA1c is an average of your blood glucose (BG) covering 8-12 weeks.

Thank you for the positivity Barbara that helps a lot. Its very interesting to hear about the other new members that had Covid having been diagnosed with diabetes. I actually read a bit about this yesterday in a Newspaper about there maybe being links to having had Covid first and then being told you have got diabetes.Never too much information... the more the better....
Good news is that 51 is only just over the diabetes threshold so hopefully with some minor lifestyle changes you may be able to push it back into remission or at least under 48. Some people here have managed to reduce it from triple figures (ie 100+) back into normal levels and some mostly through diet and exercise and not even particularly extreme changes, so don't be too disheartened. Not everyone will be successful in gaining remission but managing the condition well is entirely possible. Eating rubbish needs to stop though!
Interesting that your diagnosis may have come off the back of a Covid infection. You are the third new member in 3 days to report that and there will no doubt be more. It may be that Covid can trigger diabetes or it may be that it has been there undiagnosed for a while and the Covid prompted a blood test which picked it up.... so Covid may the villain or the hero depending upon how you look at it. People can go many years with undiagnosed diabetes and once symptoms start to appear it can sometimes be too late to do anything much to prevent the damage, so picking up on the diagnosis early can be beneficial.... if that makes sense.
Are you in the UK as that sounds like a Glucose Tolerance test, it is not usally used these day to diagnose Diabetes.Hi Ralph, Thank you for taking the time to answer me. Hi Ralph, Yes I am in Scotland. They did this last week and then took more blood to do other tests. Diabetic Nurse meeting was yesterday and she said my HbA1c was 51 so I will try diet first. Are you in the UK as that sounds like a Glucose Tolerance test, it is not usally used these day to diagnose Diabetes.
