Hello to you all...I wondering if losing your taste and smell is a side affect of diabetes type 2 or is it a side affect of metformin? I have been using it for about 6 years now..Has anyone else had this..Thankyou Hayley

Hi Hayley,

Welcome to the forum. Not heard of loss of sense of smell or taste with Metformin but a change in taste happens sometimes I think, usually a metallic taste, but have heard others just describe things tasting different.
Not something associated with diabetes itself though.
Is this a recent thing or have you had it for some time?

Ive had it for some time now..I gave up smoking 6 or 7 months before i found out i was type 2..I was really enjoying the taste of food again after smoking for 28 years...But as time has gone on im losing it again..Sometime i get it back for a day or so then it goes again...Thanks x

I have little on no sense of smell, mine is nothing to do with Metformin. I have Allergic Rhinitis and nasal polyps.

Welcome to the forum @Hayley1970

Sorry to hear about the lose of taste and smell.
As others have said it is not something that is associated with Diabetes.

Keep in touch and keep the questions coming.

If it isn't recent and rapid then it can't be due to Covid-19
