Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I was diagnosed with T2 in early April 2019 but have been borderline for a couple of years. My blood test was 51 so trying low carb. At the moment Doc wanted to put me on statins as cholesterol was 6.2 but I have asked to try and do diet first and see if it will help. I have read Dr David Cavan's reversing T2 books and also 'the Pioppi diet' to get more information. My doc surgery not very helpful so I have just changed surgeries to get more support - nurse didn't even weigh me when I said I was doing low carb, went on about low fat and then said 'we'll see in 3 months how well your doing' - this could be difficult if she doesn't know how much I weigh! Anyway I know I have lost 9lbs so far since Mid March, slowly but surely I think is the best way to go. I am struggling with motivation on exercise. I love the low carb food.

HI Martin, thank you for your reply. I have been looking at the 15 essentials today and have taken a copy of them. I have an appointment with the nurse from my new practice tomorrow so will be taking it with me, fingers crossed I will have a much better experience. My old surgery said nothing about a meter but having read the Dr Cavan book I have purchased my own as he suggests getting a grip on which foods/meals are higher on the GI scale for you as an individual. It is very early days for me although I did have gestational diabetes with my last pregnancy and had to test each day/meal then - quite a few years ago now and I have noticed how much the diet suggestions have changed i.e. they used to recommend carbs and now low carb!

It is so nice to know that there are people out there to talk to and may have answers to questions.

Well done for taking the diet route before thinking about meds and for educating yourself on diabetes/diet. There’s so much great info out there. Agree with you....low carb is the way forward! I also declined the meds and have reversed my diabetes by losing weight and eating low carb high fat. I’ve tried most diets over the years and never been able to stick to them. I love this way of eating!
Don’t worry too much about the exercise right now....I don’t know what the inside of a gym looks like, but I walk every day.
Testing my blood sugars regularly was great motivation for me, too.

Welcome! You are definitely on the right track so keep going! I also struggled with the exercise thing, I knew I would never keep going to the gym or swimming so I borrow my neighbours dog and go for walks, the combination of walking & low carbing has me over 4 stone lighter, back in normal bg range and feeling much better in general :D

Thank you Philomena, your message is very encouraging. My husband has bought 'us' a treadmill as it has been suggested 'brisk' walking and when I take the dogs out they keep stopping 🙂 that and I am doing more gardening - in the veg patch of course, I do like to have some benefit from the garden!
