Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi everyone, it's lovely to see that there is a huge support network for diabetics, i don't know why i haven't joined sooner.

My diabetic career started 15 years ago, diagnosed at the age of 11, no family history just puberty onset, i am now 26 and have survived with good control through two pregnancies unfortunately now my diabetes is absolutely rubbish and i have no idea how to self manage anymore.

I hope that i may be able to provide some support to you all but may i ask to have some in return for now as i am desperate! has anyone had a similar experience?

Chat soon -X-

Hi Rachel, it is sooo lovely to hear from you and i am available to give you any advice or support although given my recent record, i doubt i am a brilliant source however i went throughthe whole of my pregnancies with an average 6.5 mmol.

I have to admit that i did a hell of alot of bm testing before eating, two hours after and all that !!

Sadly, the testing and injecting became increasingly painful as your sensitivity grows so i missed injecting in my tummy ( i find this area least painful anyway and most convenient) so my advice would be to use a body brush to keep the blood flowing to the skin and moisturise lots and try and really rotate injection sites.

My best piece of advice would be to try and rest and concentrate on yourself as much as possible now, treat yourself to lots of bubble baths and indulgences like sex and the city / friends / pretty women / legally blonde / top gun dvd marathons (can you tell i love trashy programming) as diabetic pregnancy can be a rough ride and you'll deserve it once you have your wonderful little one in your arms but as a model diabetic, stay a bit active too...keeping fit could help through labour.

i am sure i have said too much already but if you need anything, please don't hesitate. 🙂

Hi and welcome to the foroum
