Finally feeling brave enough to post here!

After a T2 check at Lloyds pharmacy and then at my GP I have been told that I am pre diabetic/borderline T2 with my blood glucose running around 6.8. I have a third blood test 1st week in January and to say I am anxious about the results is an understatement!

There seems to be so much information out there it's hard to know where to start. I am trying to be as prepared as I can should I get a T2 diagnosis.

Also does anyone know the rough timescale for diagnosis? As all of my blood tests so far have been non fasting.

Thanks in advance to anyone who responds x

Is 6.8 Blood Glucose from finger prick or a proper blood test drawn from arm and your hba1c level?

Welcome.
Most bloods tests take a week to get to your Doctor.

The pharmacy one was from my finger and that where I got the 6.8 reading from. The borderline result from my GP were from my arm and they didn't send me the results 🙂

Your random test from finger is okay but the one from your GP is the one that shows your average blood glucose over last 3 months. Calculator here shows your blood glucose to hba1c (that's the one that does average). Being borderline then you will be asked to use diet and exercise to control.

Keep it simple. Limit carbs (potatoes, rice, pasta, bread) which will increase your blood glucose. Limit fruit to one piece a day. Say bye bye to sweet puddings and chocolate if you can't limit yourself to a modest portion! Knock yourself out with protein i.e. chicken, fish, cheese, nuts and vegetables.

Increase your exercise. A 30 minute walk a day is enough but if you like gym then that would be great.

If you have weight to lose, lose it.

While none of these provide quick fixes you may see improvement by January. The low carb and exercise will reduce your waist line and blood sugar.

If you are diagnosed ask GP about self testing. They may tell you no need but self testing is key to control and finding out what you can and cannot eat.
Someone will come along with a link for a cheap meter if GP won't give you one.

Thanks to you all so far for your support. I may be revisiting after the next test in January!

Have a modest amount of weight to lose so will focus on that, and the fitness levels could do with improvement 🙂

Hi and welcome, I was diagnosed and sent to A&E as my levels were quite high (20) and put on metformin immediately. A week later I am on 11 and very happy it has come down. My advice would be cut out all refined sugar and white carbs immediately, exercise every day and start a diet full of raw veg etc. You may avoid getting T2 but act fast. Good luck! 🙂

Thanks for the advice Amanda, can I ask did you have any symptoms at all?

I had quite severe symptoms by the time of diagnosis, excessive thirst, blurred vision, weight loss etc. Please take care!

Hello and welcome to the forum TheKMF. How did you come to decide on that username? :D Doesn't exactly trip off the tongue. 😛

I hope you can turn it around and you should be able to. Walk daily and eat good food., low carb, it'll make all the difference.
