Relationship to Diabetes

Hi there, I'm Lorraine and I've been a Type 1 diabetic for nearly 40 years. I'm a bit of a procrastinator so I've only just joined Diabetes UK, but better late than never!

I decided to join the site because I was fitted with my first pump last week (Animas Vibe) and I thought it would be useful to read about other people's experiences rather than bother my diabetic team all the time with silly questions. Most of my silly questions have already been answered just by reading through the threads, so job done.

Having managed my diabetes in splendid isolation for all these years, I'm looking forward to discussing diabetic issues with people who understand the subject. I've never met another Type 1 diabetic before (except at clinic appointments)!

Hiya! - welcome to a place where we're all normal, and the non-Ds are the peculiar ones (Muggles, as we call them)

Plenty of pumpers here too so any Qs that you haven't noticed an answer to - shout up!

This is a great place packed wall to wall with people who 'get it' .
I started on a pump in the last century - 1999! and it's been the best thing to help me out with my control. I hope things are going ok with your Animas Vibe 🙂
 
I was just wondering how they fitted your pump, did they have to use a hydraulic jack, is it easy to do with the usual selection of spanners and where did they insert it?

Welcome to the forum Lorraine. You have joined a good place to get advice etc & help others. I love my pump & it gave me a new lease of life. I do not really like eating all the time & when young I had to have 50g of carbs every meal. Things have really changed & like to miss dinner quite a lot :D
 
Hi Lorraine. Great o hear that you have your pump now. I have had mine for just over three years and it has made life so much more flexible. You may have spotted that there is a section specifically for pumpers so you will find loads of info there in general about pumps and also about specific models.

My husband says you should fit in well here then!

However, I was going to say, wrong terminology - if we are cars, we are classic to begin with and become vintage later!
