Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi. I am a newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic. This is a whole new world for me. Having eaten everything and anything for 60 years I have now got to take notice of what I am eating. There is so much info out there. I don't get my Diabetes Group Education course until July, so am trying to make sense of it all from info my diabetic nurse has given me, plus searching the internet. Food manufacturers don't help do they. Such a confusing array of labelling. 🙄
In four weeks I have lost nearly 7 pounds and am starting to feel better than I was.

Hiya Hungrylloyd.🙂 Sounds like you're off to a great start. Well done on the weight loss!🙂 There's lots of info and friendly peeps here. I'm sure the admin'll be along soon with his list of recommended reading for T2s. Keep up the good work.😛

welcome from me too. Food labelling! they're all up front with their traffic lights on the front, but the most important figure for us is the carbohydrate content, which is always hidden in tiny print on the back.

Welcome to the forum, HungryLloyd. Well done on weight loss - it's not unusual to feel much better with even modest weight loss, and that can improve blood glucose levels, which improves how you feel.

As others have mentioned, it's also important to consider carbohydrate content, as well as calorie content, of foods.

Lots of small steps and lots of learning is needed following a diagnosis of diabetes. Ask away if there's anything forum members can help you with. It's good to hear that you have a Group Education Course lined up - as well as learning about diabetes principles and local services, you'll probably find it helpful to meet more people in a similar situation.

Welcome to the forum HungryLloyd 🙂

Welcome and well done on half a stone loss already 🙂
There are lots of great links on the sticky at the start of this section. I would particularly recommend the book:
Type 2 diabetes, the First Year by Gretchen Becker

and the type 2 and me online course by diabetes uk.

Let us know how you get on
