Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hey everyone, I'm Georgia and I'm 17 years old. I was diagnosed with type 1 just over a month ago. Lovely to meet you all. 🙂

Hi GeorgiaS, welcome to the forum 🙂 What insulin regime are you on and how are you doing with things? If you can, I would highly recommend getting hold of a copy of Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young People by Ragnar Hanas - it's a really excellent book that explains all aspects of living with Type 1.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have and we will do our best to help out! 🙂

Warm welcome to the forum............

It must still be really fresh for you.....

Any questions just ask away....🙂

Hello Georgia , a very warm welcome to you. 🙂

Thank you everyone

Thanks everyone, yeah it's really new and as you all know it takes some getting used to! But im having driving lessons so nothing is majorly getting in my way. But I've always had dreams of jining the RAF which I cannot pursue anymore.

Hi Georgia and welcome to the forum 🙂

Yes unfortunately type 1 rules you out of the Armed Forces, but it needn't rule you out of flying planes if that interests you. My son and I went to a really interesting day run by JDRF last year: "Flying with Diabetes", where the main speaker was a man who had been in the RAF when he developed type 1 and had to leave, but he has campaigned for the rights of people with type 1 to fly (not military jets though!), and has achieved some amazing feats.

Do get the Ragnar Hanas book if you haven't already, it's the best source of info out there.

Hi Georgia, I'm a new member too - joined today. I can relate to your comment about joining the RAF! I always wanted to join the Police and planned on becoming a Special police officer for a year to test the waters before joining properly. I was diagnosed the day after I sent off the application forms! I was gutted but hey, life goes on. It must all be very fresh for you being only 1 month in.

Welcome to the forum Georgia 🙂
