Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi, I have been coming on this site for a while now and only just decided to join. I am type 1 diabetic and have been for 25 years. Have really just grown up with it, it's always been with me so use to it. I try my best to control my diabetes and mt last HbC1 was 7.3. Trying to get this down as wanting to start a family and would really like it in the 6's.

Looking forward to lots of chat and advice.

Bye x x x

Hi Smit, welcome to the forum!🙂 You must have seen a few changes in treatment egimes in 25 years! What sort of regime are you on now?

I was diagnosed when I was 2. Started on on one injection a day. Back in the day when the NHS refused to give people with diabetes free needles. My parents had to bye the injections. When i was ten i started two injections a day and later went onto four, I am still on 4 a day. 3 Nova rapid and one lantus before bed. Lantus has changed my life and brought my blood way down. As a teenager i was sky high and now a little older and wiser think i have good control. However suffer from lot's of lows. But trying my best. So glad to find somewhere to talk about diabetes as other people just don't get it.

You're on the same as me, although I've only been diagnosed a year. I can't imagine being on one injection! Things must be so much easier for you now, and it's great to hear that the lantus has helped you to make big improvements. Have you done carb-counting or anything similar?

Please do ask away! You have a lot of experience, but it may be that somebody has tried something you're not aware of - I'm finding this all the time!🙂

Hi Smit,

Welcome to the forum, its good to have some experience around the place! 😎

Hi smit, welcome aboard!

Glad to have another one along who can share their stories views opinions! I'm new to it all too only diagnosed last year, you quickly get used to it! Although If I'm as good a s you in 25 years I'd be beaming!!:D

Hi Smit.

Welcome to the forums. Same as Rossi above me says, if I'm in as good a shape as you are now in twenty five years time I will be over the moon! In fact, your A1c is better than mine 😱 Feel free to ask anything and we'll do as much as we can to help. I've been type one for thirteen years and I can just about recall the first few years of being on two jabs a day.

Hi Smit,

Welcome to the forum hope you find it helpful 😉

Hi Smit!

I'm glad the lantus has helped! Welcome to the forum...there's a few of us either pregnant or wanting to be, so lots of "conversation" on the starting a family aspect, the good & bad bits! I've got a 2 1/2 yr old & am currently 11 wks...I've had diabetes 30 years now, so am a bit of a medical student magnet in the maternity hospital! (You'll have all this fun!)

All the best,

Twitchy

Thank you to everyones kind hello's. Answer to the card question i sort of count cardb. Thats the way they showed my parents many moons ago. But as i got older they frowned on it and advised us not to count cards. Now they advise us to count carbs. So you can't win. I sort of eat what i like and adjust my insulin to what i'm eating. I know when i am high without even testing my blood just get a feeling and a desire to drink lots and pee lots. Same as been low, just know, go a bit mad. My family say it's hard to tell when i'm low as usually act a little crazy. Desperate for a baby, but just got a new permanant job and want to wait a few months till i settle in. We'll see what happens. x x x

Good luck with the new job Smit! If you want to make corrections to any posts you make, you can use the 'Edit' button in the bottom right corner of your post🙂
