Type 2
Hi all
New to the site. Was diagnosed Type 2 at the end of July, so still trying to learn as much as possible. Am currently on 4 x (500mg) Metformin and 1 x (80mg) Gliclazide. My morning fasting levels are around 5.9 - 6.8 and my evenings between 6.7 - 10.1 two hours after meal.

Have been trying to loose weight over the past year and have managed to drop over 2 stone. Have changed my diet quite a lot since being diagnosed, but still unsure of the best diet to follow to help with my condition. Don't feel I'm getting much support from the GP/practice nurse at the moment, so scouring the internet for info and support.

Any help/info/support would be greatly appreciated:confused:

Hi Cods, welcome to the forum 🙂 Well done on your weight loss! Your blood sugar levels are pretty good too, so congratulations on getting to grips with things so well 🙂 It's good that you have a meter as this is the best way to discover your tolerances for different food - it can be a very individual thing. Many people find that following a GI or GL (Glycaemic Index/Glycaemic Load) diet helps them with their blood sugar control - The GL Diet for Dummies is a good introduction. It's not a weight loss diet, but a method of choosing and combining food so that it has a slow and steady release of energy and less impact on your blood sugar levels.

Please ask any questions you may have! It's a complicated business, but there are lots of friendly, knowledgeable people here who will do their best to clarify things for you 🙂

Thanks for the reply. Def is a complicatesd business. Had a really low reading yesterday whilst at work (down to 3.7) so out came the Lucozade bottle. 20 mins later back upto 5.7.

I'm finding it really interesting reading all the other posts, so hopefully can gain lots of info. Will have a look at the GL Diet for Dummies too.😉

Welcome to the forum Cods 🙂

I've always found that GP's / Nurses were less then helpful for diets as they tended to suggest the high-carb / low-fat diet which is pretty much guaranteed to put your blood glucose levels up at least.

I've always been aiming for a low-to-moderate carb diet - but i think you have to find something that personally works for you are all of us are different.

Cods hi and a warm welcome to the forum
